A club permit can be issued to the vehicles in the following categories.

Veteran vehicles – manufactured before 1 January 1919
Vintage vehicles – manufactured after 31 December 1918 and before 1 January 1931
Classic and Historic vehicles - manufactured after 31 December 1930, but more than 25 years before the date of the application for a club permit.

These categories can include trailers, heavy vehicles, left hand drive vehicles and modified vehicles such as street rods. Replicas of vehicles in the categories above may also be issued with a club permit.

Do you need a Vehicle Assessment Signatory Scheme (VASS) Club Permit approval certificate?

You will need to get a Vehicles Assessment Signatory Scheme (VASS) approval certificate when the vehicle:

is modified outside what is permitted in the Vehicle Standards or the guidelines as specified below or
the vehicle was not originally manufactured in Australia, does not have any previous Australian registration history and was manufactured after 31 December 1968 (30 June 1975 for motorcycles).

My Cobra is not modified, it was built this way :)

There are genuine 60's Cobras registered in Australia

No VASS needed.

Currently, front guards/fenders being modified to FIA spec. and oil cooler scoop being fabbed and added. Pictures on build thread next week.

I may well have my lines crossed on that point then Ben, but when I changed the Cobra over back in June Vicroads where very confused on what to do with it.
My local club don't have a club representative checking cars, they require a roadworthy.
So since mine had been previously rego'd, was engineered and had a roadworthy There was nothing to stop it from being processed.
I think you will find that unless you belong to a switched on club with a rep like Marty, it would be very difficult to get an un-engineered Cobra through.

There are several reports of people with modified cars on H plates being defected recently and being made to have the vehicle engineered and then re register on the M plate system.

Historic vehicles (including trailers) must be 30 years of age or older as from the year of manufacture.

Historic vehicles must be as close to original condition as possible, with no alterations except for safety features such as seat belts and turn indicators or period accessories and options, if desired.

No room for anything newer there. Unless your cobra meets normal historic rego, there is no access to this scheme as a replica in NSW.

I have meant no disrespect Treeve, but was trying to say that the impression I have been given is that NSW are planning a 2 year trial based on the Vic platform of log book club reg'.
So given that a cobra fits the Vic criteria then you could be forgiven for hoping they will be in NSW' trial.
It would make sense, but sensible and RTA are not two words often used in a single sentence.

You where right Treeve, replicas of old cars won't be included.
