Under body stone Chip protection
Hi all,
I'm sure I've read a post about whats good and whats not but cant find it. If anybody can point me in the right direction, much appreciated. If not, would like to hear success stories about what to use, especially the under body wheel areas. cheers all Dave |
Dave in the wheel arches I used a brush on stuff from super cheap, came in a 4 litre paint tin, very thick kind of like a paste. You really "spread" it on more than brush it on. I used the $2 throw away brushes from Bunnings to apply it.

A layer of coremat if you have bare fiberglass can be applied. A couple layers of truck bed liner is another option. Even spray on undercoating will work although you would probably need several coats to build up enough thickness for protection.
|
That's what the Pace kits come with - I presume that's what coremat is, a kind of dense foam about 10mm thick - that we just glue on.
Haven't finished mine yet so can't tell you how it works. Theory seems solid.... |
Nah, core mat is a woven stranded mat that is sandwiched between layers in the fibreglass to give it a greater thickness without putting layer upon layer of glass and resin. The CR body has this in the wheel wells already - I put on another layer and used the spray on body shutz? with a special gun (pretty cheap) that the bottle just screw into. I dont know its the best stuff as its not resistent to solvents, but it has lasted quite a few years so far.
I have heard of folk spraying on the rhino lining stuff. Reckon it might be a bit of overkill so just right for you Dave :) |
i used wet suit material, then body deadener with shultz gun followed by por15. seems tough but i havnt driven the car so can't confirm.
|
Guy, we have ~10mm neoprene for our arch liners.
For those that want a spray on coating, wurth make a really good water-based spray on body deadener that you apply with a Schutz gun. You can get the guns cheap on Ebay: Stone Guard GUN Fish OIL Schutz Under Coating GUN Body Deadner GUN PS 8 | eBay The gun screws straight onto the body deadener bottle. Alternatively, you can have a professional spray the Rhino Liner deadener which is tough as nails. |
