Guardsman Blue paint code
Hello all,
Im looking for the correct 1960's Guardsman blue paint code. I have seen so many cars paint what they call Guardsman blue yet they are all different. I have searched the internet and again the colours all all different Does anyone have the correct code for the "original" Guardsman blue ?? Thanks Paul |
This subject has been discussed before and there is no paint code for this colour. I've recently repainted my car in the traditional AC "Princess Blue" or US "Viking Blue", a paler more silvery colour. Only way to match it was to print off photos of cars, go to an auto paint specialist and get them to match it . Most can scan a colour and reproduce it. Get several samples and try them.
I was fortunate to have found an AC colour sample guide on Google Images also. Don't be too critical, if you got every home build replica painted in this colour, they'd all be different.:JEKYLHYDE |

I purchased some touch up paint for stone chips from Paintscratch in the US. I haven't applied it yet but it looks very close. Called guardsman blue poly. F (1964). And the small square of GB on the website looks just like my colour. There are a lot of comments on the subject on the Internet. I think if your going for a full re spray, it's not so critical, but matching sections is the problem. I think the suggestion to get a scan is a good idea, but better from a car than a photo. Not sure what equipment is used to do that.
If my car was running, I could have attempted to get a scan for you. Maybe try a local mustang club and see if anyone has a guardsman blue pony. |

There is a paint code for Guardsman Blue. My PPG paint manager program shows the code as 'F' or 'F,D-F' and it was used from 1964-1967. The other name for the colour is Pacific Blue.

Matching paint from a photograph is hopeless. No two cameras will see the same color, and lighting conditions change (flash or not?) enough to make it worthless. Is the scan coming from a screen or a print? Is your printer calibrated? Your eyes will compensate, but an indiscriminate measuring device will not compensate for those differences.
What you should get is a sample from the live vehicle. Do it like you do when you match a wall paint - scrape a little off from some place you can't see or take the car to the body shop. |
Do Shelby use PPG codes for the 4000 & 6000 cars?
