Hello Paul,

Just for reference, Phil put a 5 speed in the Orphan, I think he got it from Rocket.

Cheers,

Ben

A T56 5 speed is a T5 or a TKO box. Go with a TKO for anything with more than about 300rwhp, unless you enjoy fixing / changing gearboxes.

Just saying.

Out of interest, why do you want the 5 speed?

ptrefry 09-15-2015 07:55 PM

The reason for the 5 speed is , 6th gear has never been used ever , the 5 speed i have been told are a lot lighter

Treeve 09-15-2015 08:12 PM

The 5 speed is a lot lighter.

The only difference in ratios is 5/6th vs 5th. 1-4 are all the same. From memory, 5th is .83 and 6th is .61, whereas 5th is .72 in a T5.

I've changed the tail housing on mine so the gear lever is in the right place for my car (Dax Rush). So I've got a ford body and a holden tail housing, which moved the lever back by a couple of inches. In a cobra you'll want to move them forward, so the TKO boxes are good for this.

The T-56 is 135lb dry (which Tremec describe as "reasonably light"), and the TKO is 99lb ("exceptionally light", according to Tremec).
The difference is 36lb or 16kg.

They certainly make you huff and puff a bit when lifting one up onto the bench.

Would there be any interest in a T56 sequential shifting dog box with an option of 6th being 1:1 -- ideal for track use ?

with apologies for thread drift

Thanks Mrs Flatchat , but I like it "Old School"
