Internal aerial

Guys

With my stereo coming to fruition, it made me think bout how to best get radio reception.

Clearly I'm looking for an internal antenna arrangement, what are my options?

I have a spot I can mount it into that tucks it under the dash immediately behind the firewall just needs some suggestions on type of aerial.

Cheers and thanks

Steve

Steve,I just used a universal pillar mount. You can bend it to suit the shape of the hoop behind the dash. You can mount directly to the hoop and no-one can see the antenna

Thanks Dougie, that pic reminds me of a version of that aerial I had seen being fitted somewhere.

I did buy a short flexible style from Jaycar but whether it needed to be properly grounded I'm not sure.

But I certainly didn't get much more than static over the radio in my first short test.

Do aerials need grounding per se?

Steve

Yep. Connecting it to the chassis should work. Ensure the connection is clean.

I have an under dash unit that fits [ along side my wiper tubes ] that has to have a power supply to boost the reception works fine for me except in tunnel but what ariel does got it on line as[ remote radio ariel]

Thanks Rob

Yes my target location is the same spot though fitting it now may be a bit tricky.

Am thinking of buying the aerial model that Dougie has pictured above as they can be had from Autobarn I believe.

I now recall the same style of aerial going into one off Marty's kits as where I'd seen this installation. The mast was extended and then gently curved to match the dash curve.

Not sure how that style of aerial will perform but I can only give it a try I guess.

Thanks

Steve, it works well. Mine has been in that location now for a few years. Even on country journeys when the Melb. station fades just swap to the nearest country station.

Thanks Doug.

Pretty much sets the plan in stone then.

Between Autobarn and a visit to Blackmans tomorrow I'll have a few more project components under control (I hope)!

Radio

Slowly,

I think you are spending far too much time on the fittment of a stereo

with multiple speakers. The reception is poor at best with an under mount

antenna and the sound is poor with music due to the obvoius. I have had the

same CD in my Cobra for 6 years as the radio reception on AM is nonexistant

and I refuse to listen to FM crap.

Spend the money on a CAM and a set of side pipes, my 2 cents worth.

i.e. I didn't put one in the Daytona.

I know what you are saying Herr Stiffness, if it doesn't work so be it but it does give me blue tooth and other capabilities which might be useful too.

This is what I used.
Works just fine !!

Hardest part is being able to hear the stereo over my open sidepipes

Thanks guys I went with Doug's option and it works fine.

Was a real ***** to retro fit under the dash and in front of all the gear mounted in there but I've managed and the aerial spans across almost all the dash width.

Cheers
