Blackmans Trimming
Am going to talk with Peter Blackman tomorrow as a result of the linkage I have through my bike shop owner contact who is a mate of Peter's.
Obviously a very well known trimming outfit, but whose cars have been trimmed through Blackmans? Can anyone expand on a list of cars/owners? Had been honing in on Duncan but he has GM concept work that is about to explode. From discussions at best he might be able to trim my seats frames to get me mobile but this wasn't the preferred plan. I can but only go have a chat with Peter and see where it all leads but am really wanting the car registered prior to Christmas to get some holiday mileage started that is for sure! Any feedback on Blackmans would be appreciated. Cheers |

I have used a former Ford specialist trimmer whom specialized in one off show cars for Ford product development. He has also worked on other show specialist vehicles. Whilst he is in Geelong it's worth the trip as he was very reasonably priced Bernie |

I used Blackmans to trim my seats and are very happy with their workmanship and time frame. It only took a week for them to do the seats. I intend to get them to complete the rest of my trim. However I have made one mistake and that is, that I have put the car back together with what was to be a temporary interior so I could drive my car and enjoy it over summer, that was 3 years ago. Its now looking like next winter before I get the interior complete. Though when when most people stick their head inside the car they think it is finished. It can't hurt to go and have a chat and there they are close to you as well. Rod |

I hear ya RODA, I painted mine in the tinted primer 7 years ago, Because I was sick of looking at the gelcoat white.
It has now been this color longer than it was white. Quote:

Grey primer, can be mixed upto max of 30% straight tinter.
Any straight tinter you like. |

Have had a chat this morning to Peter Blackman and hope to get some pricing later today. He had his dark blue TR6 at the shop and it is finished with dark blue carpet and leather seats much as I am planning so that was great to see. He is suggesting he can create the more period look to the seats which would be ok and recommending lift a dot for the tonneau and soft top fastenings. I recall a thread discussing these and the problems with some brands, are lift a dot ok? He has suggested steering away from Tennix. Otherwise what we are trying to get out of the look of the car wasn't that far from his thoughts on trim finish. And I believe he can just squeak the full car job in before Christmas strikes. Guess I await some pricing. |

Mine has lift a dot and have had no problems.
When fitting them, just make sure they are not where you are likely to rest your arm while in driving position. Quote:

Yep, same here if Duncan is busy for a while. My new seat frames are almost ready. I think. :D

I talked with Peter yesterday and confirmed he had the job. I'll PM anyone interested in the expected cost rather than blabbing it out in a public forum. Simon you asked so I'll send you a PM later. Rates were marginally more expensive than Duncan's for the same sort of level of material. However Peter can kick off the carpeting in the cabin in two weeks with the seats to follow completion within the following two weeks. I'm not ready in the boot and a tonneau and soft top can follow in the new year. Getting the cabin trimmed allows me to step into re-registration prior to Christmas - I hope!! Duncan is now pinioned down by multiple GM concept projects and can't do other work until after the new year. It was this timing availability as one of my primary drivers that led the decision. However Peter is quite sympathetic around different marques and what materials can work in different cars, so they aren't just leather centric. However we've got this far not really holding back on cost too much so the bit of extra coin to get the car sooner rather than later was not going to be a stopper. Cheers Steve |
