Best five British sportscar drivers.

This is interesting.

Before looking at the link, see if you can name all five. I came up with four but I included Allan McNish who's Scottish -- but that's British too I'd have thought. Anyway, he's not one of them so that's a clue.

Gotta love big banger sporties. And just look at the histories of these drivers. What a life!

Yes and no. The United Kingdom Parliament has authority over Scotlands territory, though Scots don't see themselves as British for the most part.
Anyway, McNish does have three wins in sports cars but I guess that's not quite high enough for that group. My opinion is Moss is the top of that list though his sports car wins aren't as high as others. He was involved in F1 as well though and not strictly sports cars. I met him and his wife last year in Phoenix. A friend asked him if he ever raced a Cobra and he replied "thank God no"! Then he chuckled! An incredible man!
Ickx is probably the best sports car racer of all time but he's from Belgium.

Yes I would have said Brundle, Moss and Redman, but for the others I would have thought of Jackie Oliver (LM '69 and Sebring '69, Daytona '71 and Monza '71) and John Watson (GP wins and also World Sportscar Championship wins) or maybe Roy Salvadori (LM '59 with CS)

Cheers,
Glen

Ken Miles

What about the greatest driver that Shelby ever had. Ken Miles. If he wasn't killed in a testing program for Ford driving their new "J" car, who knows what he would have accomplished. In the 1966 Le Mans he should have won, but was told by Henry Ford for a publicity stunt to slow down so all 3 Mk3s would cross the finish line at the same time. In doing so he technically finished second and was denied the unique distinction of having won Daytona, Sebring and LeMans the same year 1966. Here is a profile of Ken Miles.

Ken Miles--an appreciation

Don. You were probably at Lakeside in November 1965 to watch Ken's only Australian race meeting. Easy to see how he got the nickname 'The Hawk'.

I was indeed.

Even took some very amateurish 8mm footage of him coming down under the bridge and up through Hungry. It was the first time I ever experienced a vibration in my chest when a car went by. That thing rumbled!

My apologies to the great Ken Miles, surely one of the greatest sports car drivers ever. And yes of course he was British
