Phillip Island Classic 2017
Was chatting to some of the Vic boys today and by all reports this event was outstanding on the weekend past. Over 600 entries and lots and lots of classic race cars. Over 30 formula 5000s. The oz version of goodwood!
Anyway lj47 gave em hell in his cobra in regularity and I thought that it'd be great to join in the fun next year too. So I'm thinking about putting together a QLD crew keen to go down and race and or watch. It's a big road trip but by all accounts well worth it. I've never been to PI so I'm really keen. I'm happy to arrange a group if interested so calling on interested parties. There's heaps of pics of the event including the F5000 hitting the main straight fence......hard. Poor bugger. https://m.facebook.com/VHRR-193424724030386/ Spookypt |
Would have been a brilliant event. Glad to see Tom Tweedie have an almost flawless weekend in his Chevron F5000.
Dad, is this tyre off that car when Jim owned it? Must have been 1977ish. Jeez, I'd hate to see what would happen if I tried to get inside a tyre these days... https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1506/...f4274c_z_d.jpg |
I can say that this event is one of my favorites the cars that you get to see and the all areas access is fantastic. Plenty of track time and well run. If you haven't driven PI in anger I would add it to your bucket list its fast and flowing and the only example of its kind in the county. The LJ Superformance Cobra MKIII clocked the speedo down the front straight into turn 1.

Matt your always welcome south of the border.
The F5000 defiantly the stars of the show. |
For fans of F5000 I saw this the other day. Should inject some interest into Aussie motorsport. Should be spectacular to watch and hear.

LJ, Ross reckons he'll have his 40 going again for next year and I'd love to come down with the car and run with you. Ive never done PI.
Do you think you could keep us in the loop for next year and let us know. I doubt if anyone else from QLD will come down but its sure on my bucket list for 2017. Matt |
