Wheel Alginment

Hi all,

I recently put new wheels and tyres on the car, and of course I got them to do a wheel alignment. They corrected the toe but weren't able to or were unwilling to sort the front castor and camber which are vastly different left to right. Then on the weekend a friend of my uncles was looking at the car and noticed that there was an obvious difference in the camber of the rear wheels as well. So this too needs to be corrected. So I am after some suggestions of were to take the car to get all this sorted as I don't have the tools. I am in Melbourne South east.

Cheers

Andrew

Don't muck around, just go and see Nathan at Advantage Suspension in Moorabbin.

Do any Queenslanders know of a similar business in Brisbane or the Goldy?

Rog246 05-02-2016 12:06 AM

Hi Don, Fulcrum Suspension HQ at
Fulcrum Moorooka HO
28-40 Evesham St Moorooka QLD,
4105
Telephone: 07 3892 9000

They used to be very good. had real knowledgeable staff. Haven't used them for a long time, but they used to do a lot of race car setups.
Worth a try

Steve Williams at Williams Race Services, Upper Coomera, sorted my caster issues out. Nice guy, very professional.

I second this recommendation. Did wonders on my Harrison, , really know their stuff and not just a $50 wheel alignment place.

Hi Andrew

Be aware that on a number of the older kits where the Jag arms were used there may not be any 'adjustment' available.

read on if you've got the Jag front end...

The location and orientation of the upper arms is set by the mounting point on the frame and, influenced by the choice of upper arms - is largely responsible for setting the caster and camber.

There are a number of threads on here about different series of jag upper arms and what they do.

You need to educate yourself on what your car has and what it is supposed to have (in terms of suspension arms) and the available remedies before you go to the shop.

To fix my caster and camber I had to saw off the mounting points and re-attach them. - I thought - Turns out there are less drastic options available.

Andrew

What LoBelly said.

Had Nathan from Advantage do my first alignment and my fixed Jag front arms limited the driver's camber to a setting of zero.

Went down the adjustable top arm route and this has given me huge flexibility including how much caster to dial in. The option wasn't cheap though as there was machining work needed for my kit and is generally needed. Needed new top arms as the bolt points are different and Marty makes a tapered ferrule as the top ball joint taper differs from the Jag.

I ended up getting my second alignment through Rob Tucker at Hastings Tyrepower.

Can definitely recommend Rob's work and he was happy for me to watch the alignment exercise in process to see the before and after results.

Surely not the same Rob Tucker who has shafted so many Cobra guys.
But he was in that side of Melbourne.

stephen low 05-02-2016 10:12 PM

A different #ucker to the one you are thinking about Boxy - lol

Rob races a Mustang and seems well know to the Vic crowd I gather.

Marty was the one that suggested him I think.

LoBelly 05-02-2016 11:02 PM

Tuckett's tyrepower (?)

stephen low 05-02-2016 11:26 PM

Sorry yes Mr Tuckett not Mr #ucker

Hi all,

Went and saw Nathan at Advantage Suspension yesterday thanks for the recommendation he certainly does know his stuff. He is really helpful explained it all to me. As with most Cobra stories there is a big BUT. Turns out I have 17.5mm of total toe in on my rear end as he said this is not ideal. He would happy with 5mm. So he now has the job of correcting this which means basically he has to hotshot shrink the lower rear control arms.

This explains why when I changed wheels and tyres recently the old rear tyres which apparently had only done 6000 km's were already down to the wear bars and thety were only Kelly Chargers which aren't particularly soft tyres. I guess it is possible that someone had been doing lots of burn outs at some point.

Anyway so the fun continues thanks again.

Whose toe is that.......

Sorry I don't have any photographic proof of my rear end with 3mm of toe all in the same direction...... :JEKYLHYDE:eek:

But then I'm sure you're all happy to pass on that - lol :3DSMILE::eek::LOL:
