No deaths related to speed, but they still say it needs to go.

I'm a bit divided on this. It's one thing hurtling along at ballistic speed yourself, however when its some incompetent ninny coming at you at ballistic speed, I wouldn't feel so easy.

2 cars head on at 100kph each or 110kph each as per Vic limits.
Do you think there will be any survivors?

Good point Boxy, and I hear what Dave is also saying, but an incompetent ninny is more likely to cross the road in front of you because he sees a parking bay rather than be belting down the road. That is if he is sober and not on drugs.

Yes, there is a possibility of survivors. If your argument is that the probability of survival is still zero at 100 kmh therefore there is no point in restricting speed to 100, then some cursory research (or even just googling) will set you straight.

It's all just a probability game, there's no "correct" speed limit.

Its not about the impact speed but the fact that at 110k you're a lot less likely to get out of shape and have that head on, than you are at 160+.

Well I can add that Ash towing his 38foot trailer loaded to the gunnels at 4500kg towing with his 6 cylinder diesel turbo wheezer wont have any need to worry about reaching 100kph or even close for that matter.

Now Ash tell us all about your plans with this trailer..... More pics please!

boxhead 09-08-2016 08:44 PM

The limit is a self impossed and it trusts the driver to "Drive to the conditions".

I am a personal friend of largest towing operator in the region (Outback Vehicle Recovery), And Russ says he has not attended a single vehicle accident resulting in a death since the speed limits removed.
He has attended deaths due to Caravans rolling over, people crashing into cows and camels. And Troopies rolling over with 12 people in the back and no seat belts.
Not a single accident involving a death has been the result of speed.
That is also figures supplied by Territory government.

Don't you worry about that little wheezer, it'll keep you honest and have plenty of diesel left over. There will be no problems sitting on 110 on the freeway.

Yep get it looked at, that is the same as how mine was and it fatigued and had to all be replaced. I'll see if I can find some pics of what it ended up like.

Thanks I would really appreciate that. May as well fix it while I am doing all the other stuff. Did they totally replace or just strengthen it? Mine is 15 years old & done plenty of work. Shows a little sign of flex but not much really considering its age & size.

regarding the open speed limit...I recently read an article from a hotrod bloke that stated most people on that road stuck to 110 -130 kph to keep the vehicle "reliable" . stressing the car could result in a failure and out there its a long walk.

A bit of progress.
The floor is rotten so that has to come out. All new sides, raise the suspension, new front receiver, rust cutout, new lights etc etc. I've got a bit of work ahead of me.

Been a while, have done quite a few things. Put all the bracing inside the uprights so I can line the inside. Closed up the drivers side door space and made the passenger side door smaller. Also bought a caravan door to just bolt in. Have braced the frame under the front and am partially through painting this big sucker....
