Blinker problem

Guy's,

In my preparation for the upcoming Tassie Trip next week I was giving

the Cobra a once over and found the right rear blinker was not working, easy

fix I thought get a new bulb. That didn't work, swapped it with the left blinker

assembly, didn't work, resoldered the dodgy looking wires, didn't work. The

brake lights and parkers work, the flasher can works, the dash blinker and

front right blinker work. The hazzard lights work but not the right rear blinker.

There is a feed from the tail light (3 wires) and two to the blinker. How can I

test to see if there is power to the assembly, or does it look like a wire issue?

The wiring is 18 years old, that wouldn't be the problem.......

If you have a multi-meter its not hard.
You mentioned two wire going to the flasher. One is power, one is ground.
Start with the side that does work. turn on the flasher, remove the bulb.
Set the meter for DC volts. touch the black lead of the meter to the bumper, or bare metal on the frame. Using the red lead try and touch the internal base socket center (Center are usually power but not always).
Be careful not to touch the side of the socket and the base simultaneously with the probe or you'll need a new fuse. Once you identified which is power (base or socket) do the same to the suspect bad light assy. If you have power on the bad side you've got a grounding issue.
Trace the ground wire back to the frame attach point. Take out the attaching screw , clean the terminal and screw w/ scotchbrite, reattach.

Barring that it could be low on blinker fluid. Sold here...
Blinker Fluid - $18.95 : KaleCoAuto.com, Your home for the rare, unusual, and hard to find auto parts.
Sorry just had to throw that in. Hope you can see that site in AU.

Buy a test light Stiff.
It's a clear wand with a lamp in it and a lead.
Both have a metal point on them.
You push one end to ground and the other to what you want to test.

My guess though will be a bad ground wire to the fitting.

you say the hazards work, does this mean that when hazards are on that the right rear blinker IS working?

Are you using LED bulbs? Somtimes people make the mistake of wiring the leads up the wrong way round on tail lamps and then find LED bulbs don't work when they swap from the old incandescent bulb. The LED ones are polarity sensitive.

Blinkers

Ben,

The right blinker does not work even with the hazards on.

I checked the working side and there is power to the middle knob on the plug.

The non working side there is no power.

They are normal single 21w globes, not LED.

Depends how its wired, check the back of the hazard switch first for a loose or fallen off wire

Fixed

Ben gets the Beer.......

The hazard switch is in the column, old Ford Laser I think.

I removed the surround, the blinker worked, I put the surround back it didn't.

So I loosened the surround and now the blinker works......

Weird,

Thanks for the info.
