I bet it is also fun to drive. I have always loved the Lotus 7 and the clones.

I agree! Looks great....and fast!

Great looking car! That open door had me imagining some interesting aero until I realized what I was seeing.

I'm really looking at one of those for my next project. Need to finish my 25 year hovercraft build first.
I have a book called locost build of something similar, using ford escort stuff. It says you can build one under 250 pounds. An old book no less. But it has all the frame measurements etc. So I guess you could use a MX5 running gear?

Or a 4A-GZE, Toyots supercharged 1.6 corolla motor. Actually, plenty of options exist. However about a alloy rover 3.5 v8 fir sh!ts and giggles.

Jaydee 11-13-2016 09:12 PM

Is there room for a v8? Wouldn't a high revving turbo engine be quicker and lighter?

Maybe, yes and yes.

But just because one option may be better, dosnt make the other option bad.

Here is another kit that isn't a Cobra.
Pity I can not read Japanese.

Love the Toyota 2000 GT replica, they are based on the 240z or MX5 for the coupe version. If you want to see some awesome handmade aluminum bodywork check this 2000 GT replica out. Toyota 2000GT, Reborn In Alluminium

Hi Boxhead
That coupe is a Toyota GT 2000. Had a ride in one way back in the late 60's I think. My uncle was a test driver for Toyota in Melbourne and had use of the GT2000 to test. We only went around the block, but it left a smile on my face at that age.
