Off Subject Yank planning a trip

This is off topic but I'm planning a Nugget hunting trip to WA in April. flying into Perth then to Kalgoorlie rent a vehicle and drive to Leonorra. I've wanted to do this for a long time, Anyway any of you guy's from that area? Any tips on rental vehicles in Kalgoorlie? I guess I better get used to warm beer, snakes and lizards.....bob

Wow, certainly heading out west on that trip.

It looks like most of the rental companies operate out of Kal, I would book early and ask for a second spare wheel to take.
Might also be a good idea to hire a satellite phone (as I highly doubt there will be cell coverage on the gold fields).
Are you staying in accommodation in town each night, or swagging it out bush?
I have a couple of mates who live in Kal and go prospecting.

Oh, and make sure you check the tyre condition before heading out, I have known them to supply cars with almost worn tyres, worn tyres wont last long.
Take a tyre gauge with you (or buy one at Supercheap) and let tyres down to 25-28 if most of the driving is dirt roads.

Warm beer !!?!
I DON'T THINK SO.......IN AUSTRALIA if you serve warm beer there would be a riot at the pub you're drinking at, with most probably a lynching

Mate a lot of people go missing that way. Heaps of mine shafts that
People fall into. All very real. You want to be properly set up to do that trip and a Guide would be worth the money.

Leonora was founded on gold in the 1800s. Herb Hoover (ex US president) was the mine manager --a street named after him, Hoover st aaand even a Trump street
Probably fairly up to date facilities these days in the area compared to the 70s when I worked there --Windarra , Laverton, Leonora, Kalgoorlie

Thanks guys I appreciate the help. I plan on being there most of April. I'll put the Cobra up on the lift. I'm learning how to use your Tengraph mapping system. Going to take a class in Leonora to go over laws, restrictions and the lay of the land. Going to rent a Suv or truck in Kalgoorlie then drive up to Leonora. That's a good idea to lower the tire pressure. I'm glad the beer is cold. We are going to stay in a hotel. I saw a Pic of a Shag all zipped up. I think I'd like to be off the ground. Hotel, Rest. & bar, no snakes makes more sense.....bob

"Shag"? Perhaps you are referring to a swag BJ?

A shag is what you might do in a swag. :)

A folding camp bed will get you off the ground (so the snakes can pass under without wanting to join you in the warm Swag).

Remember the Aussie standup comedian Rodney Rude who said along the lines of:
"I'd .... a black snake with a festered arse if someone held its head, but ONLY if someone held its head".

And if you are offered a beer that's "KIMBERLY COOL" you might want to think about it first.
