Thanks Anthony.
For some reason your Dropbox link wasn't coming through on my computer. All fixed now. I've just had a quick flick through the photos -- sensational!-- and I dare say I'll be spending a good part of my Saturday going through them again (and again)!
Congratulations to you and Wil on producing such a tremendous addition to Australia's Cobra ranks.

Honestly if you are in NSW at the moment and considering trying to get a kit thru ADR's at the moment , prepare yourself for a 18 month to 2 year wait to get it all thru the RMS.
They have been knocking back applications that have spelling mistakes ... That and where they used to only Audit 1 in 10 cars, now they are Auditing every car that is presented for registration. This has slowed up the process considerably.

Wazza 03-08-2017 10:19 PM

Anyone with a car that's ready to be registered .
Have you got a close relative in Queensland?( Southeast Qld)
Might be an option to register the car in someone else's name up here.
Registration doesn't mean they own the car .
Last week I registered a new ( AP) Cobra for someone that had the same problem.
Stored the car for a month or so/did the paperwork/got the result/ being picked up here on Saturday....and I was paid for my trouble.
Everyone's happy.
Just a thought !
Cheers,
Warren

Warren,

Whats the scheme or process for QLD rego..?

Chris

Inspected by engineer
Passed by engineer
Vin issued
Take documentation to transport dept.
Pay stamp duty and get plates.

Something along those lines.

Cheers,
Warren

Get the VIN in QLD, register it in NSW.

Rob. Smith 03-17-2017 05:59 AM

Hmmm ..RMS reads this site..and many others. It's best to go by the ridiculous rules and be compliant.

Treeve 03-17-2017 03:10 PM

Registering it in NSW still requires it to be compliant. Registering it in QLD and using it in NSW for more than 3 months isn't legal.

The RMS have made such a palaver about getting a VIN that if you can legitimately obtain a VIN in another state you may as well. You aren't breaking any laws.

The problem is the clowns who make and enforce these rules will read this, and knee jerk react with "we've got to such that loop-hole down". All in all missing the point, and reason one is driven to find such work arounds. They're missing the root cause of the problem - Their own incompetence, lack of understanding of what they are in charge of.

Instead of reviewing how they can do it better and make it more efficient a process, they'll redirect energy into shutting down "loopholes" and work arounds. Frustrating and sad!

Yep like all Govt departments.. The conditions and morale has been reduced to nothing so .. they just have a job, just do it and carry on. They don't have to think...just do as the book says. Back when the rta removed all inspectors from the big regional inspection stations (and put them into an office) that's when things went downhill in a big way. The rta put the onus on garages to perform blue slips. a bad move there.

Crazy times....lol. My VIN for sale you NSW Guys....comes with a free car....

Well, good news. My Cobra just got passed. No big hassle. They checked all the lights, window squirter and horn. Had a look under the car and noticed a brake line a bit to close to the chassis, and checked my bump steer on the front. It was a bit to high for their liking, so I had to fit a new rack, went back and they passed it. Yippeee. Went next door and got a set of plates within 30 minutes.

Well done JD, now get out and enjoy the driving!

Jaydee 03-23-2017 05:21 PM

Thanks guys.
Now I have to do a Aussie Mike and modify it all. No just kidding, I need to change the seats to give me some room. Power brakes would be nice. It takes a lot of force to stop it,is that normal?

Yep pretty much. The standard brakes will pull up a lot better with decent pads.

Beejay 03-24-2017 03:24 AM

CR brakes work awesome with the right pads.

You just need to get used to the pedal feel with no assistance.

Jaydee what brakes are you using? Do you have "standard" VE rear and VZ front? Yes you have to push a lot harder with no booster - I have BIG brakes front and back and still have to push hard

EDIT: sorry, realised after that you have Jag brakes.
