Refueling - At the track
Interested in hearing/seeing what everyone does at the track for their refuelling.
Im in the middle of making a mobile fuel decant station that is safe, easy to move and holds reasonable qty. (with fire extinguisher included) What's interesting is most online 12v fuel pumps you can buy are not suitable for petroleum (high flash point liquids) Issues of earth straps and the like also become apparent. I currently have a little battery operated pump (go cart style) but having seen a product on the weekend using compressed air to reticulate fuel got me thinking. Safety is paramount of course, but seeing guys refuel with possible heavy hi splash jerry cans and funnels around hot brakes and hot exhausts has lead me to consider what's the best arrangement? I usually re-fuel just before going out, rather than just after coming in, so by then things aren't so "hot"

Here's what Ive done. Trolley made up to carry
- Oil Warmer - Battery Charger - 12v Air compressor - 60 ltrs fuel - Fuel drum is pressurised using the 12v pump and decants into car. Pushed about 8 ltrs a minute. - Static lead from drum to car - Plus the tire pressure gauge and tire temp gauge Will also have mounted fire extinguisher and cover over battery. I got sick of walkingr back and forth to the trailer getting stuff so now I just role my fuel trolley out and Im done. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=16583 |

at our track refuelling as become a bit of discussion point as most people fill from jerry cans /funnels 'hoses ect ect ..while there has never been a accident in the pits due to fuel
we still get the odd dickhead who will smoke in the pits despite all the signs ect saying not allowed .. we now have a refuelling area that's coned and roped off where only one car at a time is allowed . while still using jerry cans you don't have to worry about some bloke with a smoke you must keep your own fire extinguisher in reach as well as ones provided in the area ..this all started due to a insurance audit of the dirt tracks around south Australia in dirt circuit .. as been a member on the clubs committee we have to be seen as been proactive and we still catch the odd idiot trying to fill outside the area but I think the message is sinking in. that's a nice set up spooky....pic of me having fun cheers deano |
