Default 15 inch Tyre recommendations

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to replace my tyres and looking for some real world feedback. I need 295 50 15 rears and 235 60 15 fronts (or 225 60 15).

I only use my Cobra for "spirited" cruising - no tracks days. Just looking for the best options.

I can't justify Avons. I'm interested in honest feedback on Goodrich but looking for any other options and experience people have with 15 inch tyres. I understand options are limited in these sizes but I'm not wanting to change wheel size.

Thanks in anticipation.

Mayler, I've been very pleased with Mickey Thompson tires. On my ERA 289FIA, I run the Sportsman S/R 10/26/15 on the front and 12/26/15 rear and they give me good street traction, even in the rain, and a quite ride. my 2¢ worth.

It's tough for us 15" lovers today, as there's not much of a choice.
I don't like the 17" (+) wheels on a Cobra, even on a Kirkham or Shelby.

I have the Good Year Eagle ll on mine, but their real hard. I also like raised white letter tires.
I also have a set of Bill Board tires that I've never mounted, but I'm concernd their too old to use now.

Anyway, AVON' are great but pricey. I wish Good Year would come out with new radial Bill Boards !

I got rid of BFGs and replaced them with Cooper Cobras on my SPF. Huge improvement. The Coopers ride better, handle better, grip better, and feel more connected to the road. Cooper Cobras are the same as Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T.

Mickey Thompson Sportsman ST. Nice ride, sticky enough, same tire shape as the
Bill Boards, semi original look tread design, and very inexpensive. What's not to like?
The SR is more sticky, more expensive and the tread design is hot rod city.

Was going to say have a look at the Firestone Firehawks. I have these on my car all round and think the grip level quite reasonable.

However I now see that Tire Rack don't carry the 295/50/15 rears at least. I sourced all four tyres for <$1000 including freight a few years ago now.

But by all accounts the Avons are head and shoulders over any other 15" offering. Once my suspension is redone, including sourcing new rims I am likely to switch into the Avon option.

Can't comment on any other tyre options unfortunately for comparison.

Kevin, I don't know about the USA, but in Melbourne Australia when I bought mine in early 2016, they were, IIRC AUD$2240 for the set of four, supplied, fitted and balanced.

I origially had the M/T Sportsman ST's, but had to switch to the Avons because according to my engineer, the M/T's only had an S (max 180kmh) speed rating which was too low for my supercharged Cobra. I didn't have a choice...it was either put the Avons on or don't have registration for my car!

In any event, I am happy that I have them. They're great tyres, look fantastic and are fully street legal.

Cheers,
Sime

AC Hipo, can you enlighten us - are Cooper owned by MT or vice versa? When you say "the same" is that the rubber compound as well?

Their treads look very similar but are not quite the same.

Cooper owns Mickey Thompson (and Avon).

The S/Ts are basically the same as the Cooper Cobras (they may not be identical, but equivalent). The S/Rs are definitely different--H-rated vs. T-rated--and a much different tread pattern.

Love the Billboard look. It's a great option. Where did you get the letters from?
