Dynamat - Does it make a difference in a cobra?

Looking at re-doing the carpets - the el cheapo stretchy speaker box stuff in there at the moment has lasted pretty well but it was only a temporary job at the time.

I see a lot of people put dynamat (or equvalent), and I have search for an answer but does it actually make a difference in a cobra? I would have thought all the other noises that dynamat cant mask would be much louder than the ones it does.

Cheers

Isn't there another product out there you can put on with a brush to match your paint? ;)

dynamat

hello, I have a 1937 ford coupe and before I did the inside with dynnamat, you could hardly hear anything. once I dynamatted the floor and firewall my wife and I could actually have a conversation while we were driving 70+ on the freeway. around town is great. I cant speak for it in the cobra, but in the street rod it is a must. I experienced the same thing in my 49 ford pickup. I highly recommend it. I do have a factory five and not sure if it has been sound deadened or not. Hope this helps.

I think for sound deadening in a cobra, the improvements will only be marginal.

I used a local equivalent for heat shielding and it has been very effective in this respect but I can hear the whining diff still very well - lol.

Hence the good stereo to drown out other ambient noises with music!

Sound deading

It was a hudge difference! Car was much quiter, no noise from the trunk and the big perk was it wasn't as hot in the footwells...go for it!!

Great stuff and worth the cost. All my interior panels are aluminum, I drove the car with and without Dynamat before installing the carpeting...The Dynamat knocks down the noise and heat, then the carpet seals the deal!

I found it to really quiet down the road noise. From my reading, I found it is designed to dampen vibrations and tones from the metal to metal contacts and inherent movement of body parts where they meet. IMHO, it does that very well. There are cheaper products available that are supposed to do the same thing, but after reading the reviews, I went with the Dynamat.

IMHO......It makes ALL the difference.

I "Dynamatted' the Sh*t out of my car when it was built.

Every surface inside, and UNDER the car...inside door panels.....and double thickness in some places( Floor panels etc.)

Turns Aluminium panels from drums into solid surfaces.

When you knock on every panel, and surface, it sounds like you're knocking on hard wood.
When I shut my doors, I recon they sound like a REAL car door shutting....not that usual hollow sound the Cobras often make.

Love the stuff.

I used a local product on my Cobra.
As others have said.. Hard to tell if it makes a big difference but I like to think so. Even if only for the insulation against heat.

I used Dyno Mat in several cars. Great stuff

Found the same material on Ebay called Fat Mat Sound Deader for a lot less money. Same thickness and appears to be the same material.

Tenrocca 07-16-2017 01:44 AM

righto - I'm convinced. How much do I need to do a cobra cockpit?

Dwight 07-16-2017 02:26 PM

depends on what you want to cover.

Firewall
floor
tranny tunnel
rear bulk head

Just measure the area.
