Sciccor lifts.
I'm looking into changing my 2 post hoist for a full height scissor lift. The 2 poster takes up valuable space and the posts always seem in the way. And a 4 poster also takes up room. So I've decided on a scissor. If you make it flush with the floor it is totally hidden. So i want to sell mine. It's nearly brand new.
Any have experience with these?

Hi Jaydee Did you decide on a scissor lift yet. I am interested if you have, how have you found it. I am sick of crawling under mine on wheel ramps one end and axle stands the other. Ian

I'll be keeping mine at the moment but If I move again then I'll get a scissor lift. I like the ojne from Molnar. I think It's a Nusbaum like mine. About $9000 but really nice. JD

One of the main reasons was height room. When I bought the free floor 2 poster the column height is 4 metres. Most sheds the wall height is 3 metres and 3.7 roughly at the peak. So it was high enough with my old molnar 2 poster to lift most cars with the bonnet closed. So when I bought the 4 metre column I poked the columns through the roof and made a sort of tent to waterproof it. Now I've moved location and I'm now building a 4 metre high carport. But when I move back to Adelaide then I don't want a high shed and don't want the 2 posts to be in the way for the odd time I would use the hoist. So that's the first pro for a scissor and it can be flush with the floor. You can open the doors. Good for low cars. Free's the wheels like a 2 poster. Gives you a platform to put stuff on. The main con would be lack of room under the vehicle when say doing exhaust and I think there's enough room for trans removal. The Musbaum scissor also go almost to 2 metres lift. Hope this helps with your decision. JD

i dont have the height for a hoist in either my main shed or where i have the cobra now in the build in carport with access into the house.
i was sick of working off the floor esp with my back and while it's not a perfect solution this was good enough and i got it for a good price from one of the local bob jane stores that was having a refit.

So you got a mid rise? They are way cheaper and I guess with a roller stool you could manage it. Better then a pit I guess? JD

yeah it gets it off the froor about 1200 but i then use jackstands on the platform to get it a bit higher and your correct i have a roll stool that makes zipping around a breeze def better than climbing up and down a pit |

How would you getting a gearbox out? I will consider it though when I move back to, Adelaide. At the moment I'm building a high carport and putting up my Nusbaum 2 poster. It's been stuck in my container for 3 years whilst we were moving around. JD

i would take the car to a mates and use his full size hoist if i had to remove the box ot take motor and box out it one hit can do that at home . while it does has it's limitations its a 100% better than working off jack stands on the floor . |

I've got a generic Chinese four post lift.(several brands) It can go only so high with roof trusses, so I scoot around under it on a Supacheap pneumatic stool. For removing a gearbox I have a hydraulic scissor lift trolley. That works well. I've actually moved the whole hoist on its (modified) casters with the Cobra on it. A scissor lift alone will limit your options for access. I saw the best set up with a scissor lift on the "12 gauge garage" on youtube ..he has a Porsche. so center access is not necessary . Just my thoughts. I'm also a bit afraid of two posts as well.

Just the fact that the car is sitting on four tiny plates and heavy work can move the car a bit. Bolting them to the floor makes them a permanent fixture as well. They require a thicker footing to mount to as well. ( more mods to the floor slab) My four poster has a sliding scissor jack when I want to remove wheels etc. I just feel more comfortable under a four post rather than a two post. |

One post hoist
Has any one had experience with one post hoists. I am a bit wary of them if hoist has an issue......then squishhhh

Nothing wrong with a good 2 post hoist.
A good 4 post does feel more secure.
Touch wood, I have never had a car in trouble on a hoist. |

I’ve used a Nussbaum 7000# scissor lift for over 10 years.....& it the best lift we’ve Ever had....the spacing on the two plates determine how much room you have to work with when under the car....ours is 36” between the plates that lift.....
I also have a two post lift and it is equally as good just some jobs are better on each lift....depends on what you want to do....
You can’t go wrong with Nussbaum....

Don’t have room for two or four post lifts, so I’ve been making due with a set of QuickJacks (there’s another thread on those). But there are at least two old gas stations around here that have those old single post lifts that I keep thinking would be great to install in my garage, though I’m not sure I’m up to the work it would take digging a hole and relaying concrete, let alone convince my wife. Then there’s the whole safety issue.

I have a scissors lift, works great for everything I need to. Pulling a transmission may be a challenge.
