Ford Barra in Cobra
Hi,
I'm new to the Cobra world and I'm just musing here (hoping to start building in the next few years - just penny pinching for now). Short version: Would a Barra squeeze into a Cobra? |
That might actually not be a bad combination at all! Turbo'd Barras can make serious horsepower and for the purists on this side of the globe, you can tell them at least it's a Ford!
I gather that they're highly sought after in Oz. |
Barra's are pretty thick on the ground here. I don't know if clearance at the front would be an issue, but I guess you could have the chassis constructed to suit. Main reason I ask is I'm planning a build, and I happen to have an '06 farlaine that I could use for drivetrain, seats, brakes and other stuff to reduce the cost. Car has 200K on it but has been in the family since new and never flogged. Makes me wonder - I mean sure, V8's are great but rego is cheaper for a 6 and as you say, Barra's have quite the following. Surely someone has done it....?

I guess you could probably adapt the whole rear suspension cradle to fit?

Have seen an early V series Crap-a-door V6 in a G-Force.
Even that had a modest bit of go but no V8 rumble. If I hadn't started mine it would have been a good buy for the $30k - ish price asked and then just transplanted a Windsor into it way back then - circa 2006 |
I think I saw Will from ICCARS ( Island Custom Cars) do a Barra in one of his cobras. Might be worth a look at his stuff.

A guy in Adelaide built one with a Nissan RB25 turbo it was very quick. The Barra is tall and if you can get it in around the chassis and cross members, You might end up with a weird power bulge towards the front of the bonnet
