Victorian Emission Requirements
HI All. Im researching building a AP Cobra and I'm in Victoria. Hopefully posting in the right forum!
I'm finding it difficult to get a direct answer to what is required in Victoria regarding an ICV build. I understand that emission requirements are different between full registration and club registration. Is that the case and what are the requirements for each? The reason I'm trying to find out is because I would much prefer to use an older engine as opposed to a Coyote or LS. Are the older 1970's engines able to comply with either registration path? I really like the concept of a cobra with silly cubic inches. No idea why, its just a preference I have. |
It is reported that one requirement was that when Queen Victoria farted, someone nearby had to claim responsibility.

AP Cobras usely perform best when using a BFD engine. Of course, this is tied to the car's NFDFP. You should proceed forward WD and TCTTW.

Sadly this forum has died on the vine in the past few years.
You would get more useful ( Australian) info on a couple of the Facebook sites. "Australian Club Cobra,Daytona & GT40" and " Cobra Car Club of Victoria" Hope you find what you need. Cheers |

When you populate your post with repeated country-of-origin specific acronyms that are unlikely to be recognized inside or outside your country and then can't devote enough attention to your typing to type 'AC Cobra' instead of 'AP Cobra,' a reader begins to wonder what/who we have on the other end of the communication. Clearly, 'AP' is not a typo. The key for the letter 'P' is almost as far away from the key for the letter 'C' as you can get on a keyboard. The real question here is, what / who do we have on the other end of this communication with a grand total of a single post (proffering an ill-stated, incorrectly spelled, and formatted question) framing these sorts of inquiries? The answer typically is a spammer or a noninvolved, non-interested individual up to some sort of mischief! |
AP stands for absolute pace which is a company that manufactures AC Cobra Kits in Australia. I was simply asking a question on a forum where I could reasonably expect someone to have an answer.

Ed I don't understand any of that!@ I don't see a problem with Bob's original post. He is obviously referring to an Absolute Pace Cobra hence the AP. |
When you use country-of-origin-specific acronyms outside the country of origin, you just might find a few readers who have no idea of what you are talking about ...

Not 100% on the requirements but believe in Vic the ICV's need to pass an emissions test, not sure of the specifications but suspect that you might struggle to pass the emission levels using a non-injected engine style. Again could be wrong here if a carby can be tuned sufficiently, but thought that wasn't generally achievable. Finding a VASS engineer will get you the best advice as they are the parties signing off to the ICV build to ADR's in the first place. Cheers Steve |

I built mine a few years ago and had to meet 2018 emissions over here in the West I looked at all options to meet the ridiculous ADR requirements and finally settled with an 05 boss. So in short build what you have to for the ADR and have secondary back up once passed if you get my drift otherwise get hold of an old crown chassis and run with a 70s compliance and you can pretty much run what ever you want mate. Just my opinion 🤙 |
Bob, forget anything 70's compliant it won't work here in Vic. Contact a VASS engineer who deals with ICV's and be guided by his knowledge.
