Robnell 4.6 ltr s/c
Greetings all;
There has been some press of late (Melbourne Herald Sun today) on a Robnell cobra with a 4.6 ltr motor. Just wondering if anyone else is in the process of playing with these motors in a cobra.If so, it would be interesting to hear about it. I dont know if manufactures in the USA are tooling up for this combo, but I think its something that will start to appear more common as cost and availability come into line. Chris - was it the 32 valve "Cobra" motor, or the lesser SOHC motor? Those quad cam 4.6s are BIG motors - I bet Robnell had to modify a lot of the front chassis rails for clearance.....

Paul,
Got any more details about that motor of yours? It sounds like it should be a good one! Got any photos? |

Craig ;
Sorry only photos at the moment are in my photo gallery, the mad Professor Peter Phelan our local stroker guru is currently weaving his magic. l have to make an appiontment to view my engine ,he has spoken to myself, and friends far more knowledgable than l and it is mind blowing listening to what he is doing to get that extra HP. Being the layman all the technical stuff is not retained very well or passed on to others well, but l will try to retain some info an pass it on to you.. P.S. Your combo looks a piece of work , side by side one day ??? Regards Paul |

My car is in Dougs shop as we speak,so Im tipping I'll be going to have a look in a few weeks.There's also a fair chance if I get any where near your engine it will be re-located!!.That 'THING' is going to kill you!. Keep us all well informed about your combo, its awesome. Craig W Im not sure about which 4.6, but I assume it the Mustang motor or the Quad cammer in other words.The article was quoting approx 280 KW(400 bhp).I agree,serious chassi mods would have to have been done ,those heads must be almost 12 inches wide. Mike,
Thanks for the photos! Whose car is that? Is it one of the FFR guys from CobraForum? It looks like it has been really nicely detailed. The huge hemi style rocker covers look fantastic with the Cobra markings, and the supercharger just tops off the motor nicely:D Paul, What, do you mean a race??? You must have me mistaken.... I just built this motor for bench racing. I'll never use more than 1/3 throttle. I really don't like big power.... Too much power in a Cobra is dangerous anyway..... Oh, OK.... you twisted my arm - you're local racetrack or mine?!? :3DSMILE: Seriously though, do you know Ian Frost from Brisbane? He has the same manifold/runners/throttle bodies on his 420ish cube windsor, and it looks INCREDIBLE! Scott ("vcf" on this website) built a super low profile distributor using the internals of a VT Commodore sequential distibutor, and Ian had a guy around yesterday to hopefully load some base settings into the Motec and get it running for the first time! |
Craig,
l am hoping to do the club nationals followed by Bathurst THEN INDY , your track will be fine!!! l guess l should first of all worry about getting my pipedream on the road ....Ian l don't believe l have met, 420ish cube was my prefered combo ,l was hoping the weapon inside would of course get as close to that 427 badge on the side. We are looking at running coil packs , is there a reason for sticking with the dizzy ? l would be interested in following Ian progress , and hearing about any developements or problems he does encounter. Sorry for any delay in replies l'm fighting with the other half and my 12 yr old for the computer and my typing isn't up to scratch . Regards Paul... CHRIS , Give me a call when you venture down to Dougs, it would be good to meet with you f2f........ Regards Paul.... |
4.6 engine is Mustang DOHC.
HP is currently at 400. 8 throttle body has been designed and about to be tested which will increase HP. Also blower is under way and will fit OK under bonnet. Only Chassi top rails cranked out slightly to accomodate engine. Robnell Sports Cars(Aust) - Bayswater Melb 61 39720 5366 |
Craig,
Yes, it's in an FFR. I'm trying to find out whose car it is and I'll pass on the contact info... OZ, sweeeet setup on that drivetrain. Just out of curiosity, what do the M8's run you guys over on that side of the pond :)? That is, if you don't mind me asking :D Mike |
Here's a picture of the motor thats in the Robnell.
I believe all that was changed was the upper frame rails to accomodate the width of the 4.6 DOHC motor. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...29-002-med.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...est011-med.jpg I believe Robnell is currently in the process of going to independent throttle bodies for the motor.
