Front suspension.
Now that I have purchased the kit, and instruction manual has arrived :D :D :D , Which jag model front end should i get?
Which model has the best brakes? My step father has a leyland/bmc wrecking yard in Melbourne so I will source alot of the second hand bits with his help. I just need some opinions on which one is best? I have downloaded the instruction manual disc to paper and read it through about 3 times allready. |

But..depends what Classic recommend..the lower arm of the series 1 is quite different to the series 11.
As for brakes....all jags the heaviest, must ugly cast iron calipers you ever saw..the series 11 use 4 spot calipers..series 1 mostly 2 spot. But..all depends what classic set the mounts for. You take care |
Series 2 or 3 XJ6. Series 1 hasn't got the 4 pot callipers. I went for a series 3 front end from memory but there isn't much difference between 2 and 3.
Bushes and bearings are cheap. Upper ball joints are in the region of $120 each though. Lower ball joints can be repacked and shimmed to take out any play. Rebuild kits are about $40 each from memory. Speak to Gary at Jagayre, down here in Clayton for decent prices on most of the replacement parts. He did a good deal for me. Cheers |

Nope
Both the same..heavy cast iron..4 spot calipers...and..as far as I know..after market light calipers like willwood are not available without making up special brackets. :CRY:

One of the 3 has a funny 3 piston calliper from memory. I think the series 1 had solid front discs as well. Can't remember which one is which though. Stick with the 4 piston equiped ventilated disc front end which I think is series 3. All of the other parts are pretty much the same and they only really changed when they went to the later XJ40 design. The brakes is the main difference between series 1,2 and 3 and it's pretty obvious when you look at them.

Series 1 has solid disks..and either a 2 or 3 spot calipers..depending on the model car..series 11 and 111 have 4 spot calipers..ventilated disks 284 mm Dia and .94 thick.
