Cold Start Problems
Don't want to hog this forum, but when you purchase something different you end up with minor (hopefully) problems that you leave you dumbfounded.
I have a V8 302 Windsor (Fairline) Engine fuel injected, which when cold refuses to start (no spark). The only way I can get it going is to park it in the sun for 5 minutes (bonnet up) and it then fires first time - apparently a Jaguar remedy (Bloody british cars)!! Its a good job I live in QLD! When running warm, the engine is fine and never misses a beat. Any ideas PCC (Peter Craig) |
No start when cold
Peter,
Being from an electrical electronics background I would be looking for dry solder joints in the HT firing module. I would try to borrow the electronic modules and try swaping modules one at a time to see if the problem goes away. If it is dry solder joints the problem will only get worse. Regards, Bryan |

Will definitely give the module swap a go. Having spoke to the original builder, he thought that as you could finally get the car started by switching into neutral (4spd LE 95 Electronic Auto) that it may have something to do with the sensor on the gearbox. He says you can make a manual adjustment to the selector and things may improve. This car has got a heart and soul as it has just started for my wife. PCC (Peter Craig) |

Possible thermal clock problem in your ESM.
Swap the Electronic Spark Module and see if it persists. Just my $0.02 |

Can you recommend a Diagnostics expert on the southside. Other than trying and trying and trying, this cold start issue is not going to go away. In the right hands, I'm sure the problem will easily be pinpointed and fixed. Go the Queenslanders. I might be only adding 300 hp to the QLD cobras, but every hp counts. PCC (Peter) |

Why do we use kw here? must be part of metrification. BHP is far more recognisable and a little bit more understandable. I must be part of the old school! PCC |
Peter, I live Northside so have not used any southside Tuners.
A mate highly recommends a mob called Carb-N-Ject at Underwood. Evidently they are pretty switched on with all things induction/ignition related. Hope it works out. |

COLD START FIXED
Lost a day working, but at least I fixed the cold start problem. For anybody's information it was the inhibitor starter switch located on the side of the transmission. I think the old switch was too close to the exhaust and so packed in due to the heat. Bandaged the exhaust (not ideal as advised by local exhaust fixit man as significantly reduces the life of the exhaust - what the hell, a little more noise will keep the neighbours on their toes) to keep the eat down. After replacing the switch, it started on the second turn - so it was for a spin into the setting sun. Thanks for everyone's advice - certainly a helpful bunch (even those victorians). I forgot to mention that a full day to me is 12 til 2. One thing you don't realise when buying a Cobra is that there is very little room underneath to fix anything. Prefer the Landcrusier underneath as you don't have to jack it up! With regard the whirring noise if you can't hear it you can't fix it - suits me. Hey, maybe I have a turbo in the boot! Oi Pete, Dont mention turbos in here..the fella who did all the work on Craigs car comes in here occasionally and he is a turbo freak..he'll have a huge hairdryer on that thing so fast ya head will spin.
