Candygram for Mongo
Isn't it great when the courier delivers some new parts for your Cobra project. I get a big kick out of opening up a box of parts I've ordered a few days earlier, It's like a mini Christmas day.

It's a fabricated pedal box. Ian gave me the laser cut blanks for the pedals and the brake pedal is cut to take a weld in Tilton balance bar. I've machined the pivot bushes and I'm piecing it all together at the moment. I'll weld them up when I'm happy with it. I'm probably going to fit a bias adjustment knob on the dash after it's registered.
I've got some AC script alloy treads that I'm attaching to the pedals so it should look good when it's all done. On Ian's advice I went for 3/4" front 5/8" rear for the brakes. Ian reccomended 1" for the clutch but I could only get 7/8". I might just have to change the pivot or shim out the throw out bearing. These Wilwood remote cylinder kits are great. I hope they perform as good as they look. The kit comes with 2 different sized reservoirs that can be connected via the hose supplied or plugged directly on the cylinder. It makes it pretty flexible for fitting them to different applications. They look to be pretty good quality and a reasonable price too at AU$148 each. Cheers |

I saw the pic of your Cross ram. That thing is going to be a beast. You might have to put a hood on it like Craigs (750HP) though. I bought Blazing Sadles on DVD a couple of years back. That movie still cracks me up. Cheers |

Have made some real progress since you saw the car last. Now in real bolt together stage. All going well about two full days left. Then its clean up the white Gel coat and black stripes. Alloy flywheel and HD clutch arrived last week for the Gen 111. CAPA said it was "neutrally balanced" whatever that means. Not being trusting type had it balanced any way. Out by heaps plus dowells supplied didnt fit pressure plate. So much for QC. Pick up alloy radiator and alloy fuel tank this week. Body in for engine bay,boot and underguard painting. Aiming for Christmas completion. Its Christmas everyday when you own a Cobra. See you at Wakefield. What time does the action start on Saturday?? Regards, Phil Neall |
I'll be there from Friday arvo. I guess the action on Saturday morning will start with the turn of the first Cobra ignition key :D Not sure what the actual schedule is. I'll just be tagging along and catching rides from anyone with a spare seat.
Thanks for the heads up on the CAPA clutch. I was going to order their 685HP stage 3 clutch kit but I might wait and see now. What are you doing for a brake fail switch? Looking forward to catching up with you at the nats. Cheers |

Re Brake Fail switch:Ian told me caps from Barina reservoir fit Wilwood reservoir. Have not tried it yet but will need to soon. What are you thinking about for insulation. I was going to go with aluminium sheet and 3 mm cork between body and chassis and cork internally over tunnel and foot wells. Fitted windscreen last week. Much simpler than expected. Any news on Stuarts rego hassles. Has it all been sorted? Did he make the magic 1000kg all up weight. Regards, Phil Neall |
Re insulation, I've seen some thin foam sheeting backed with foil on both sides. It should be pretty easy to cut, shape and glue into the foot wells and on the tunnel.
I remember seeing the Barina reservoir caps when I visited Ian a while back. I was planning on using them but I also thought there had to be a pressure switch in line that detected when either the front or rear brake circuit failed. Aluminium radiator and header tank are next on the candygram delivery schedule. I think Stuart and many others are still waiting on Rego. The RTA fella has got a bee in his bonnett about not having a brake booster fitted. The precedent has been set by other cars already so I don't see how they can knock it back. I think they are waiting for a decision to filter down from higher up. Cheers |
