Hi inazuma_x
:3DSMILE: Joining the Queensland chapter is easy. %/ #1 Go to Centrelink and apply for your pension card #2 Fill out your application for a 'Seniors Card' #3 Place Drive Right stickers, Rotary Club stickers and RSL stickers on your mini #4 Drop into the local Police station and collect your photo and criminal history #5 Don't wash for a week ansd drink your wine from a paper bag #6 Dine at the local Salvation Army and be seen with the right vagrants. #7 Live in the right suburb, this may require pushing your shopping trolley across town and squatting on the right bench #8 Fill out the application for your 'Disabled Permit' at the local Council #9 Go to McDonald's and expect free Senior Citizen coffee ever day. Once you have mastered the art of passing wind, belching, picking your nose, scratching your butt in public, leaving without paying, missing your shout in the bar, you may become a committree member.. %/ Good luck with your endeavours. Cheers :3DSMILE: Bernie Bernie Knight Mt. Hell I'm sorry guys. inazumu-x When ever I see a Thread or a Post with the question.. 'what should I build' or ..'is a real Cobra better than a replica' I know there will be some lively discussion. I recently spent some time with a guy in Melbourne who has a genuine Cobra and recently sold an aluminium bodied Cobra built by John Ohlsen in New Zealand to a friend. One of the interesting comments he made was that he is a little nervous about leaving his car when parked. This is both due to the quality, cost and desirability of the car. Now don't get me wrong, but I would not like to be in this situation. My car is on the road, is unfinished, very rough, unpainted and at the momment it is probaly not too desirable. I recently found myself doing a number of 360's (circle work) in my Cobra at a farm with some guys in their utes, and would never do that if my car was an original Cobra or aluminium. The possiblility of dust, dirt and damage was not a worry with my car. The photos on my 'camera' under the Gum tress were taken just after this stupidity. Its certain all this will change when it is painted and finished and I will be driving with my Mt. Gambier RSL Bowls hat on and doing everything sensible. The question of.... "Is a real Cobra better than.." From an investment point of view BHP shares are better than Intermoco shares and cost accordingly (1100 x/- 1.) %/ What I am saying here, is I could have possibly afforded a genuine 427 car but I was not looking for an investment I was looking to drive it and have fun. So I went down the fibreglass body path and the rest is history. However, I maybe looking at a Kirkham if they come into Queensland. Aluminium bodies left unpainted and polished look damn good. :MECOOL: John Ohlsen did one like that in New Zealand and Scotchbrite rubbed it. I feel that the Classic Revival car is very good and I spent a number of hours looking at Aussie Mikes car. Its a good chassis/body option. I am also very impresed with the Robnell cars their finish and quality parts. %/ Take a look at Aussie Mikes site and AC514's site - both under construction. I purchased a body and did all the rest with the assistance of the guys at McDonald Bros. Racing in Melbourne, so I guess I cannot say my Cobra is better than any other. My thoughts are, go down the direction of fibreglass as its easy to work with and you can sell the car and perhaps build the aluminium bodied car once you have had the fibreglass car. I have had a number of steel and fibreglass Street Rods and I can always remember seeing a sign in a well known Street Rodders shed that read "Its real its steel" Ther same guy now drives a fibreglass Duece Customs '34 coupe as a daily driver and his reasoning is similiar to mine. I think you have enough money to start right now. Keep looking at this site and other Cobras before you make the final decision. Talk to owners and email them and they will give you advice. Look at the other 'Threads' where people have asked the same question. Don't get into that discussion that takes place often in the States on this Forum '.. is a Shelby worth more than.." or is a real Cobra better than.." '..is the new CSX4000 series a...' etc. etc. %/ Good luck. The Queenslanders will look after you. Just don't believe them when they say it is customary to shout the first round as a new member at the bar. :3DSMILE: Cheers Bernie Bernie Knight Mt. Gambier South Australia. Hi Les
:3DSMILE: Your McDonald's V.I.P card will be in the mail today. Only valid at Mt. Gambier South Australia. I'm waiting for the poison mail from up your way now!!!! %/ Need to watch out. Cheers Bernie Bernie Knight Mt. Gambier South Australia. |
Les,
We have almost 3 weeks without such poisoness inuendos. I will have to refrain from holding serious conversations with you guys. Oh - and you wanted to know about my recent damage. Well - no speed involved - in fact the motor was not even running! Remember those long gone days when the only way it would start was to push it into the sun and wait for it to start? Well, one day I did and flipped it into Park - and then it went.....down the drive. Holding 900Kg's plus is difficult when its got momentum. It ended up taking out the front entrance post. Fibreglass doesn't dent. It tears and stresses. Anyway I now have a real Cobra (warts and all). Nevermind - once the front end is lifted its back to the paintshop to restore it to its former glory. By April I won't know what to do with it! |
are robnell bodies any good? i saw a pic of one and it seemed good...but their site is down :(
|
The Robnells are very good, but you will blow most/all of your budget without getting alot done to the car.
|
really??? i had no idea they were so expensive...they look nice from what i have seen...how much are we talking here?
|
big block engines are so bl00dy expensive :(
love the sound...love the power...hate the price :( i could spend $50,000 easy on say a chevy alloy block 7L V8...the block alone is like $15,000...*cry* |
Pete...sorry to hear about the accident mate...I bet that destroyed you for a couple of days. Good to hear all can be fixed.
Now lets talk about April...lets consider the options.....how about replacing that breathless 5 Ltr with maybe something a little bigger ;) Ooops..there goes the belated chrissy drinks  |
Hehehehe..Bernie......I want a seniors card thanks. ;)
inazuma_x ... Think very seriously what Bernie has said. He has reflected exactly my thoughts. I think the point being, .... be realistic ... by that I'm not suggesting you dont aim for your "dream car" but maybe work up to that dream car. I know fellas with glass cobras who wont let them out of their sight. I can imagine what they would be like with an alloy one. We all aspire to that alloy Cobra, but would we really be any happier with it except for bragging rights. My ultimate dream is to finish the cobra I have and then whilst enjoying it, to build a GT40 ....... I want one of both and I really dont care if they are glass replicas or not. Unfortunately, by the time that happens , I may not be able to get into and out of the GT40. |
i like gt40s as well...but they are a little too "new-age-sporty"...i prefer the older styled cars...in my opinion a cobra is just a mini thats had a few more hours in a wind tunnel and a few 100 horses rustled up and packed under the hood...which is great :) love minis...love cobras more ;)
yeah...i guess for my first cobra i should just go the glass road...alloy later...maybe i can sell my glass one in order to raise the funds for an alloy one :) big donk is going to set me back a bit...but whats a cobra that doesnt purr like a 1 tonne lion??? |

Just keep looking and asking questions. Have fun. Search this forum. I spend a fair bit of time on here and constantly ask questions and read other questions and answers. No wonder the Drive Thru is slow  Must get back to work. Les how long before I can come into Queensland? Really sorry about all those comments above... Cheers Bernie :3DSMILE: Bernie Knight Mt. Gambier South Australia. |
Hey.
Technology today is amazing. Currently in Singapore waiting for a plane to Frankfurt. Unfortunately haven't seen a Cobra here, but then again when you're in a bar you are not likely to are you? Oops plane is calling..... better go |
