stroked 347
Hi All,
Could someone point me in the right direction. I am currently have all paperwork in for rego awaiting VIN and I have started preparing what want to do to the car once I have past rego. First thing is to stroke the boring 5.0l to a 347 and performance heads. I have priced stroker kits through Summit Racing in the US for $ 1479 USD but is there anywhere I should try in Australia first. Any advice would be appreciated Thanks Stuart |
I believe VPW have some good prices on stroker kits. They are a Melbourne company but I think they have an outlet in Sydney too.
Here's a link to their web page: VPW Mail Order They do a Scat 347 kit for AU$2495 according to their catalogue. Cheers |
I agree with Mike.....but, ring VPW as their on line prices are based on costs of their last shipment.
I've found that by calling on the phone you will save heaps. The $A is strong....good time to import :3DSMILE: |
..... VPW have always done great deals for me, and their freight costs are unbelievably low. I had about 2 cubic metres of stuff sent from them, and they charged me $11- from Victoria to Brisbane !!!

I just purchased a 347 stroker kit for my stuggling 302 shopping trolley. 350 hp not enough.
Try Coast High performance ( coasthigh.com or probe industries.com ) I have visited their premises in Torrance L.A. black and white tiled floor, full of CNC machines and a very sound reputation in the US. They had a special on 347 street fighter kits down from US$ 999 to $899. I think the special has now finished. The kit includes crank, bearings, forged pistons ( fly cut for your cam), rings, and I beam rods. The pistons have off set gudgeons to improve the rod angle. I added a main girdle US$ 180 with ARP bolts and a stage two TFS cam, forget the price. An engine builder has looked over the parts and really impressed with the quality and the price. This has to be the best deal at the moment at US$ 999. They are happy to accept payment by credit card and arrange delivery to your shipper. I paid AUD$ 200 for sea freight, 4 weeks delivery time:LOL:  Snaken    |
Vpw is good !
AFR heads is better ! |
Thanks for your input I will call VPW I noticed their Website before but I thought their online prices were a little high compared to some US sites.
Having a HO engine is there any different specs I should enquire and is a camshaft part of the kit I have seen in technical specs the camshaft is different from the non HO engines Thanks Stuart |
Stewart, The cam isn't part of the kit.
The kit usually consists of a crank, Rods and pistons...sometimes rings/bearings etc. The HO engine uses a hydraulic rollor cam..the earlier, pre 86 I think, used flat hydraulic follower cams. The difference in the cams is the base circle. The earlier flat hydraulic cams can be fitted to HO blocks but earlier blocks need a conversion kit available from the cam companies to run hydraulic rollor cams. If you're looking at 6000RPM tops then the hydraulic rollor is what you want. You will want better heads than the standard HO heads which strangle a standard 302. Stroker kit, good cam and good heads and you will have a screamer. If you're using the standard ford EFI you'll need to change a few things. |
Stuart
If you would like have a look at my 347 and come for drive to see what you can expect from a mildish 347 let me know David |
