Got through engineering

Boy am I happy. I got through engineering on Sunday. If you had seen the car on Saturday morning you wouldn't have thought I would stand a chance. But put enough hours in and with thanks to Ian at CR and my son I was ready for engineering Saunday at 4am.

I was worried about the brakes not being bedded in so used the noise test stage to give them a work out. Must have worked as the engineer said they were about the best he had ever tested.

I see why the testing is done on weekend . 110 in an industrial estate is a bit wild.

Got the balance right (fluked) as the car pulled up without locking front or rears.

Passed the noise test. Thats tough. 90 dB max measured at 500mm from exhaust.

Tomorrow weighbridge time. Vin by Thursday. Blue slip Friday(more late nights) and registered on Saturday.

This was also the first time I have driven a Cobra. Wow. Cant wait for the full experience.:) :) :) :D :D :D

Regards,

Phil

Let me be the first to say congratulations! Well done Phil, You're an inspiration.

I've posted a couple of pics of Phil's car in my gallery. Check out the awesome paint job. This will certainly be a car to keep an eye out for at the nationals.

Here are some links to the pics:

Great news, Phil !!!

I like the look of the car without the windscreen. Too bad that bugs feel like bullets when you drive it that way !

How many revs is the vehicle dB tested at?

boxhead 02-23-2004 03:58 AM

Well done Phil.

Keep us posted with how the rest of the week transpires.

How soon after getting through rego before the working side pipes go on?

pneall 02-23-2004 03:19 PM

Thanks guys for the encouragement.

I gotta get that windscreen on before any serious driving takes place. Odd how you can engineer and register a car without a windscreen. In my case it sure helped save time as I didnt have to worry about washers or wipers.

Craig the stationary noise test is carried out at 3700 rpm. I think there was more noise from the engine (101 dB) than the exhaust.

David, I am still working on design of side pipes.

Just got back from weighbridge came in at 1040 kg. So with Windscreen ect should stay under 1100 kg. That 6 speed tremec that GM uses sure weighs a lot.

Now to get VIN and blueslip by Friday.

:) :) Phil

Aussie Cobras at the Fling

Ed,

I think that's a dream many of us down here have. I would love to get my completed car over there for the fling and then tour the country in it.

Cheers

Leeroy,

Paint job done by North Point a local smash repair place just up road from Ian. It does look good and I can' wait to start driving my Cobra.

Looking forward to Nationals and should have sorted the car and myself by then.

Regards,

Phil

That does seem odd that you can get it registered without the windscreen and wipers inplace.

That sure is something I will keep in memory for my car, I plan on getting vin as early as possable then pull it all apart again to modify as I want.

BMK 02-25-2004 06:35 AM

Hey Phil - well done

:3DSMILE:

Look forward to being up at the nationals with my car painted and finished. Hope to check your finished car also.

DV.

Sorry thought I would be able to get to Columbus. Ohio for the DVSF. Work has stopped me. So will try for next June 2005.

My Post on I.C.E saw a number of Indiana Cobra owners and Ohio owners come forward with offers of showing me how to get there etc. Unfortunately work pressure (National board position) changed my plans overnight. WTCOBRA will lead the way in 2005.

I will just try and keep up

:3DSMILE:

DV Good luck in fundraising etc for Jenny and the crew in 2004.

Aussie Mike

Mike we have talked about Cobras in a 40' to LA once before. Will chase this up to see what the costs are. Would be great to leave LA and drive across to Ohio. No doubt we would have one or two US guys travelling with us. Perhaps June 2005????

Cheers

Bernie

Hey Phil

I was half expecting a black and red Cobra to come blasting up Somerville Rd this weekend. Is it registered or what?

pneall 02-29-2004 02:35 PM

Brett,

Slight problem with Blueslip. Should be sorted today (Monday). I will let you know or better still drive around.

Regards,

Phil
