Aftermarket Computers

Hello again,

Just wondering if anyone had any problems registering and getting their plates with an aftermarket ecu eg. Motec, Wolf, Autronic etc fitted?

Or did you add one of the aftermarket systems after motor registery?

We are weighing up our options as to buy an aftermarket system or stick with the original and bypass the smartlock bits and pieces.

Regards
Lyn

Hi Lyn,

I'm no expert, but as I understand it in Vic it is impossible to register a car without an unmodified factory computer. So I would assume it would be similar in SA. Also cheaper than using an aftermarket computer. But once you're registered...........:)

You can get the car complied using a non standard ECU if you can prove that it will comply with the ADR's. This will mean emission tests which can be time consuming and costly. Even then it is highly unlikely it will pass the new standard.
If you know for sure that your motor in its standard form will comply in your state then you are better off getting a EFI expert to do it for you. It will work out much cheaper than an aftermarket ECU.

Dont even consider it because it will cost you $4000 + to get the ADR tests done.
