Side Pipe diameter
I am soon to start building my sidepipes. What diameter pipe is used for the main body of the pipes? 3 inch looks too thin and 4 inch looks to thick. Any info appreciated.

Mine are are pretty chunky looking and use 3.5" collectors and tip with a 4.5" body (There are pics in my gallery). I think most are a 3" collector and tip with a 3.5" or 4" body.

Any ideas as to what diameter the pipes are on the attached photo.

My guess would be a 3" pipe
Cheers |
I will be useing a larger diameter pipe as my personal preferance is it looks beter, also i prefer the 4 into 1 connector being visable on the outside.

Brett,
I am making my side pipes at the moment. They will be 4.5"OD with 2.5" perf pipe inside with 3" collector and exit. These are copy of Mikes. Thanks Mike. I think you will need this OD if you stand any chance of getting noise down to acceptable limits. I should have them completed in about a week if you want to view them. Regards, Phil |
Mike are 4" with 4 into 1 collector showing. See my Gallery.

Hi all
 What are you using to pack the pipes. Mike are you using the stainless donut type bands or something different - fibreglass, steel wool, stainless steel packing. How tight are you guys packing the pipes. Are you packing tightly. Cheers Bernie |
Bernie,
I got the packing from difillipo in Melbourne. Its in a blanket form and Darren has recommended that I wrap the peforated tube tightly . I also intend to wrap the packing with thermal blanket with shiny side in to hopefully prevent "snake bite" from hot exhaust. Regards, Phil |
Hi guys
You can always just go natural like me and have no packing and just perferated pipe and man is it loud. to give you an example these are some of the things that has happend in the last 2 months. Set car alarm off in parked car as I went by, man mowing lawn heres me coming over lawn mower and looks up in the sky for a plane or somthing and just the other week driving down suburban road 60kph and old man walking towards me stops and puts both hands over his ears till pass all I can say is the look you get from people as you go pass them at full noise is priceless. Craig,
Ian at CR has same problem setting off alarms. His best trick however is opening Hondas. Must be driving the Honda service guys crazy. Hows your CR going , are you happy with the way it handles. You really got 400kw in yours? must be unreal . Regards, Phil |
Packing what's packing. I can't rev it up in the garage without
knocking pictres off the wall in the next room!!LOL |
4" OD for big blocks. 3" OD for small blocks. Thats what we use, and its the sound tht gest into your soul when they're tuned.
