Spare Tyre
What do you guys do about a spare tyre? Put one in the boot and there is no room for anything else.
Do you even bother. |
When finished I'll just carry a couple of cans.
Even if yu had a space saver made up etc, you've still gotta carry your flat somehow - don't think your passenger you be too happy having your rear wheel on his/her lap for the ride home! Also some cobras probably don't have a choice about carrying a spare. Eg CR's have Jag front with a Ford AU rear so you've got a 50% chance of being able to use it. (I bet Aussie Mike has a solution to this problem though :) ) Cheers |
That reminds me , better buy a few cans.
If you use a can is there enough propellent to blow up the tyres or do you need to carry a compressor as well. Do you have to remove the gunk from inside the tyre? Does it throw the wheel out of balance? I had better read instructions. Phil:confused: |
I carry Spare Tire in a can myself. Actually had to use it once too! Was REAL glad I had it!

I was thinking about getting a skinny wheel, say 5 inches wide, to keep in the boot. The cans are a great idea but wont work in all situations.

I've used a can once. I had a large stone chip shaped like a triangle about 15mm long, 10 mm wide & 3mm thick. Can said to remove foreign object first then use the can. After taking a few layers of skin off trying to remove the bugger I filled up the tyre (ordinary tyre). Only just made it to the servo to refill it with another can & then only just made it to my inlaws house - total trip about 10km and the tyre was hot! In that case I think I should've left the chip in the tyre to act like a plug cause the hole was too big

Make sure you have membership with RACQ, RACV or whatever.
Spare wheel lives in the garage and has never been in the car. What's the point of a spare if you don't carry a jack:JEKYLHYDE |
What spare
RACV phone number and a mobile phone.
A blown rear wouldn't fit in the boot anyway. |
I carry a screw type jack and a spare from a Dodge Stealth in the trunk. It uses very little space and the jack fits nicely underneath it. It's also a good idea to have a couple bungies to keep the lid down as you limp somewhere to get your tire fixed.
