Working Side Pipes
Hi All
I guess this question has been asked heaps of times before...... however I am in need of some help or advice. Were do I get a set of working side pipes from that are already built and ready to bolt onto the header. Do any of the Cobra spare parts suppliers sell them or does anyone know someone that makes a good sets here in Australia? Would like to hear from anyone selling a set or who is willing to make us a set for a reasonable price. Cheers Lyn PS I rang Don Pilling - Snakebite today and got his latest price list. PIPES
I've got a set of pipes that go from the end of the collector to the turn out. They have baffles inside them with a threaded rod that goes through the baffle and holds it in. You pack the baffle with stainless steel wool or any other like product.
Look at my pictures and you can see them mounted on the car. Remember though that these pipes go from the collector on my system so you'll need to have someone "mate" them to your headers. |

My sidepipes are working, however not connected and are a standard issue from RMC in WA. They are SS, baffled, have cat converters and heat guards. All you need to do is connect your headers or extractors to them. Check out my photo gallery. Kym at RMC may shed more info than I can. I think they are reasonably pricey you may want to find someone local who can make them cheaper for you. Good luck!! Regards Tony |

I built my own headers and sidepipes. It's not too hard to do if you've got some welding skills and some patience. The side pipes have cat converters in them and the mufflers slide apart so you can repack them (The join is almost invisible). If you want to run sidepipes definitely think about using cat converters in them as the fines for being caught "catless" if your car requires them for emissions are hefty. The only problem is finding a high flowing cat that will fit inside the pipe. DiFilippo Engineering supplied the ones I used but they are pricey at about $245 each. It looks like your makeing some good progress there Mike, I saw your pics on the LS1 site and also your cardboard cutout dash here, Only thing I can see is you better remount the clock as it looks alittle crooked :P

I think we will have to camp down with you Aussie Mike so that you can show us first hand how you build those nice looking side pipes!! Considering hubby was a sheet metal worker/welder before he decided to go off and kill "bugs" for a living you would think he could "whip" up a set! ;) I guess its like the old saying............if you live with a plumber you have a leaking toilet, if you live with a ex hairdresser you have to go and pay for a haircut!!! :LOL: I know of one guy here in Adelaide that as soon as he got his registration disk went home that afternoon ripped off his standard exhaust and put his side pipes back on that day! :D Mike havent seen to many Cobras here in Adelaide with "cats" in their side pipes. I believe these cars went through with a standard exhaust for rego purposes before the transformation. Cheers Lyn |
