Another day in paradise... Qld Cobras in motorsport

On another perfect Queensland Sunday, the drags and the muscle car shootout were held within 500 metres of each other. Dale and I gave our cars a run down the quarter, and Cameron turned up in his mindblowing twin turbo NSX. I had a couple of "toe in the water" runs to see how I'd go in street trim - exactly as it's driven on the street (no race tyres, race fuel, full exhaust etc). Cameron seemed to keep lining up for more runs, and Dale gave everyone the quad-Weber induction roar experience.

I'm sure Cameron will chime in with the results of his time slips, as I only had the chance to see one of his runs. 12.3 @ 118mph is very impressive in a car that is realistically more at home carving through the dips and curves of Targa Tasmania than doing the boring old 1/4 mile straight line stuff.

I also only had the chance to see one of Dale's runs, with a 13.1 @ 104mph seeing off the vast majority of the XR8s and SS Commodores up there.

I ran 11.2 @ 129mph first run and 11.1 @ 128mph the next. The datalogging showed that I held full throttle for the last 0.9 of a second on the last run. %/ Bigger balls or stickier tyres might improve on that time in the future......

The NSX..... a really unique car in both execution and sound - Cameron will probably call me crazy, but it sounded like an '80s Ferrari at idle and part throttle, but like nothing else at full noise.

... while down at the Muscle car day, Stu Maxwell was playing with fire. Check out the exhaust tips at the rear of the car while he was braking for turn one at Qld Raceway...

In the Great Battle of the Oranges, Peter Ransom (owner of DRB Cobras and GT40s) goes past a nitrous assisted 454 powered Holden ute down the main straight...

Chris goes safely through the bumps and into turn one. Those same bumps sent me over the ripple strips in the foreground at the Powercruise last month.

Thanks for the photo's Craig,

As my brain was fading completely, I needed a few runs to clear out the cobwebs between the ears.

First two runs, I couldn't work out why the car lost power as soon as I shifted into second?!!??

Then, I noticed the TCS activation light flashing at me (Traction Control System). Burnouts with Traction Control on are rather dull...

So once I engaged the brain and disabled the TCS, I managed a 12:03, then I braved full boost and improved after two more runs to a 11:64 at 125MPH... Although I was told that my reaction time sucked... So kind and supportive these Drag Racers.

Now It's time to bath the kids... back to reality.

Great time !!! About that reaction time..... have a look at the lead the big block Camaro has over you already (considering the start line is just behind your rear bumper). I believe you ended up winning this race. Bad reaction times aren't anything that lots of turbocharged horsepower can't overcome :3DSMILE:

Great Photos Craig. Looks like a good time was had by all.

So when do the drag radials go on that beast of yours?

Cheers

Cracking photos Craig.

Cameron - where's your sponsership gone?

Unable to go due to a certain bathroom / toilet reno job (becoming bigger than ben hur - and nearly as expensive as the Cobra! - and thats with me doing most of the work!)

Craig, Cameron - both posted excellent times. I know what Craig has in his car, but Cameron what exactly have you got under the bonnet?

Probably a spare wheel and an overnight bag, Isn't the engine in the back of the NSX? :p

Cheers

Mike has it right there...Under the bonnet is the brake booster, radiator and various computers.... there is no spare... 17" & 18" wheels, 10" bonnet space.

However, intstead of golf clubs in the back, it has a twin turbo 3ltr VTEC V6. Original Honda engine with many internal mods, and custom Twin Turbo setup. The intercoolers can be seen through the rear window.

Much fun to drive:3DSMILE:

I will bring it along to the meeting next Sunday if you are interested.

Excuse my ignorance, but never been up on oriental cars - brought up on Fords - Don't go there Mike:p

Once a couple of my sons start with the Jap cars, I'm sure I'll get to know them better - more work:(
