Running in, oil
Hi All
Just wanting to get some input on what to use, to break a new engine in with. Id prefer to use something that comes in 20ltr drums as my engine has a 8ltr sump.:D BTW its a 460ci BBC with Merlin2 heads and a solid cam. Any info appreciated!;) Cheers Rob |
I've been told not to use synthetic oil or your rings might not seat.

Maybe it's just that the guys I know are pretty casual about the whole running in process, but they've always just used something like Castrol R.
I've also heard that synthetic isn't a good option for running in. About your camshaft - is it a roller or flat tappet? If roller - I wouldn't ever use synthetic If FT - depending on your spring pressures, I'd consider taking the valvesprings apart and running in the motor just with the inners. |
Break it in with the kind of oil you are going to use. (don't use synthitic until after engine is broken in if thats your choice).

You're game Robo, asking this question 'bout your Chevy BB with all these Ford boys around. ;)
Perhaps you should've posted this thread in Bowtie Snakes:p  Cheers |

Kendall is very high in zinc...high zinc content is recommended for cam break-in
