Tilt Front Body
 
Hi all,

Has anyone in Oz gone down the path of researching
a Tilt Front Body.

Like the idea of having it setup that way,but believe that it might be a bit of a job.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Craig(750HP)- I see you have a removeable front on your beast,what are your thoughts, was it worth the effort.

There is a Cobra manufacturer in Adelaide that is doing one for himself .Im not sure if he will be making it available to the public .

I used to be able to post pictures, must be getting old. :( Check my gallery if the above links wont work. Some reviews of our first DV II with a tilt nose.

'Tilting' is not that big of a problem.

Nick - I say it to anyone that will listen - a lift-off or tilt conversion is the best modification that can be done to a Cobra. This is the one mod that makes the car easier to work one than anything else. The final straw for me was when I was changing the timing cover on my last Cobra. Leaning over the guards, paranoid about scratching them, for hours on end killed my back. Now, If I want to to any work inside the engine bay, I just pull the front off and sit on the top of the front tyre. Easy !

Scott (OZVENOM) did some mods to mine, and also changed his Harrison so that he could either tilt or remove his front. I would guess that he'd also recommend the mod.

DV's cars are cutting edge works of art. You need more than a few hours to absorb all of the mods that Ed made to the DVII, and they're just the mods that you can see !!! On any other car, a tilt front is a big deal. On DVII, it's just to be expected, that's the kind of car it is.

Last point - Denis Bedford (from DRB) made a tilt front DRB2000 a while back. It was at Sanctuary Cove this morning. Al (NASSTY) might have taken some photos of it. I know he had what looked like one serious bit of photographical gear hanging around his neck, so you never know. I bet DRB could integrate the tilt-front if you asked them. If not, Scott could do it for you before it's shipped out of Qld.

Thanks for the insight,everything you say confirms my thoughts on how much easier it will be to work up front.I was at Sanctuary Cove this morning talking to John & a few of the boys but you left before I had a chance to quiz you.Which other Cobra had the tilt front,I was to busy getting ideas that i missed it.I live in Brisbane so Scott will be the next obvious point of call re the mod.

Hi Nick,

Craig's right. I think DRB's first 2000 model had a tilt bonnet. I believe Dennis initially built it for himself and it was probably a "development" car. It's red in colour (no stripes) and I've seen it at Sanctuary Cove (not that I get there too often - not enough hours in the week :mad: )

I suppose its how authentic you want your finished car. Practically, its definitely the way to go, but not sure asthetically.

I like the way Craig's and Scott's cars are, but these are serious power houses, whereas us "little" boys only need to tart up the engine bay and then maintain it with a little polish:D

On a serious note, when replacing all my wiring sheeving I did end up with a sore back (which I never ever get) as a result of stooping over the paintwork.

At the end of the day its personal choice.

I must admit the yankee pics look pretty impressive.

Car's in the garage itching to get out out once I sort out the instrumentation.

Rego renewal just been paid so hope to be out enjoying our winter sun this coming weekend.

Aim to be at the next Sanctuary Cove meeting next month so if don't see you before will catch up with you then.

These Cobra's are obviously becoming a common sight in this area.

At the weekend the kids saw a silver and green one in Cleveland.

That's it - time to source that Daytona;)

Sorry but unfortunately I only have a pic of that cob with the tilt front down so it looks like every other cobra. I was still recovering from the drive with 750HP. Thank goodness his brakes are as good as his boost! :D

Nick - Sorry about implying that you were a southerner! We Qlders need to stick together in the face of the Victorian onslaught on this site....

PCC has a point about the originality issue. I didn't mind having an extra panel gap down the guards for the extra convenience. No idea what he's talking about when he says you need to polish aprts in the engine bay?!? Must be some Eastern suburbs thing ;)

Shame I didn't meet up with you. You might have noticed that I don't exactly turn up to club events on time !

I always knew Kiwis were 5 years behind the rest of the world... Look at the date of the previous post! Only joking Maurice, but it's interesting that you resurrected this post now. Just last weekend I was pulling the gearbox out of the Cobra, and yet again I was so glad not to have to lean over the guards to get to the bellhousing bolts and starter motor. Lift off the front, sit on the tyre and away you go!

Hi guys the race car i built last year i decided it would be even better if i could just take the whole body off .
So thats how it was built no doors to keep the body stiff and it takes 2 guys about 30 mins to remove the body . even less if it didnt have a roll cage. 4 bolts 2 plugs and its off. mind you its not something you want to every day but when it comes to working on the cobra it makes it so easy.
