Sun Block attacks paint????
A few days ago I went for a drive and with it being very sunny and clear I wore a white T shirt and used Bullfrog Sunblock on my neck, face, and arms. Today I did the same, upon returning I noticed the paint on the inside top edge of the drivers door near the door lock mechanism had a somewhat sticky feeling. I thought that some of the sunblock had been rubbed on the surface by my arm and as I attempted to "wipe it off" the surface remained sticky. I used some glass cleaner to no avail. Then I tried some mineral spirits (paint thinner) and it seemed to remove the sticky feel but it apears as if some of the clear coat slughed off in an area about 4-6" long. Is it possible that the combination of perspiration and this sunblock could attack the paint. Anyone have a similar experience??????

You used Paint Thinner to remove the sunblock, and removed the paint instead, and you think it is the sunblock that did it?
Ya'think? How much suntan oil did you put on yourself? Next time cover yourself with mineral spirits and use sunblock to remove it of the paint. TURK |
I did not rub the paint very hard, I just wonder if there is somthing in the sunblock that caused the stickyness, and attacked or softened the clearcoat. The paint was evidently compromised BEFORE I tried to remove the stickiness. Initially I used liquid diswashing soap, it was still sticky, then I tried glass cleaner, then mineral spirits.
TurK: In answer to YOUR question, no suntan oil. I had the Bull Frog setting on my head to block the sun. I got a lot of strange looks. Rick |

Oh you, down by the bay Here, block the sun and get a new paint job while your at it. Never heard of someone using paintthinner to remove sun block, but I did meet a person who washed her hair in paint thinner to get the grease out. She was from CA also. Interesting state. |
How else would you get grease of your hair?
It is not the state, it is the people that makes it so "interesting". |

The chin strap was the unique part of the sunblock application.
The paint thinner was the mildest solvent I had available to me in the garage, and its use was restricted to the small area on the door. Torque: (Southern Accent) "I aspire to be just like you." |
You do not want to get sunblock or insect repellents on paint or plastic (vehicle interiors, seats...). The damage to these surfaces can be minimized by applying them and allow your skin to absorb them. Wash your hands after applying.

Okay, the number 30 sunblock will remove fouling in your barrel if followed by a brass brush and oil.
The number 15 stuff does not remove the fouling in smaller barrels like 22 and 25 Cal. but appears to work on larger bores like 338 and 375.
