Ill fitting doors
Anybody got any advise on how to cure an ill fitting door.
Only a problem on rough surfaces (most of QLD roads) when it rattles on the lock plate. Tried adjusting both the door catch and lock plate, but simply returns a few 100kms down the track. Thought of fitting some foam or something round the latch, but would prefer a tidier solution. My problem is a little bit harder to resolve as I have electronic door handles, which are pretty sensitive i.e. door too tight, won't open electronically. May be I should perfect the technique the Dukes of Hazard used, thereby have the doors glued Passenger door fine, only the driver's door - maybe I should switch the steering to lhd and at least I won't notice the problem:rolleyes: |

You sure you got the right site?. Real Cobras dont have door handles let alone automatic opening doors. :p Best solution...glue em up :JEKYLHYDE ....they wont rattle anymore and will be waterproof. :3DSMILE: Just gotta learn the art of stepping over to doors to get in ... That's easy for tall fellas like Craig but takes some practice for us shorties. :D Why weren't ya at brekky yesterday....missed ya :) |

:eek: Les what are you telling him :LOL: Peter have you got enough rubber around the door seal? Is there any adjustment in the catch? I know it looks a little rough but a teflon cover over the catch similiar to some of the late model boot latches may help. Can you tap (hammer) the catch to a tighter position? Bernie |

Tap...hammer??? This is Queensland mate......when we say hammer, we mean hammer..as in pounding in fence posts and breaking concrete. ;) The hardware stores here dont even dont even stock those lil poofy hammers I've seen down south. :rolleyes: :D |

Thanks for the advise - as informative as ever:rolleyes: Missed brekky because I didn't go. Will be there when the temperature rises above 20 again (at 6.30AM). Bernie, There is play in the catch, but only reverts back to its original position after driving a while. Bolts not catching well enough through the glass. Door mounting solid, but may try to undo and reposition - just don't like undoing something that is well fixed. I'm sure this is an issue with lots of Cobra i.e doors drop. I've seen quite few with scuffed paintwork where the door sits on the car frame. |

Ok..OK....I'll be helpful if ya gonna be like that. %/ Actually...would you believe your problem is one of the reasons I choose an RMC. The doors hinge from a very solid frame behind the dash and the striker plate fixings go thru the glass and thru a piece of angle bolted to the chassis inside the wheeel arch. I swear one could jack the car from under the doors. :) Having said that....The RMC has a lot not going for it too....Like I could breed fish in the hollows in the body moulding. :CRY: :CRY: |
Well, if it's any consolation, my doors don't fit worth a damn either. I am working on putting a huge block of aluminum behind the striker to fix the blasted thing.
Got dirt roads here also and it rattles the teeth out of your head on bad days. Haven't heard of anyone with electronic doors for a CObra before, how's that work? :3DSMILE: |

They're simply electric push down switches (Chrome) out of a Jag. They fit snugly into the front of my door pockets. Also got a manual overide (QLD regs). Half of my problem is that too much adjustment stops the electric switch working (too much resistance). May be I'll stick to the main highways or turn the stereo up! |

You're going to have to change your's to bring it up to the standard of paintwork. When you don't have anything to lock, the switch works pretty well in that nobody knows how to open the boot - subtle security - nice ;) |
Another problem fixed:)
Unable to adjust the catch on the car frame, so decided to cheat and wrap a small bit of foam covered in insulation tape around the door catch. Happy to say no more rattles and the door still opens with the electric switch. Too easy:cool: |
