Petrol/gas pump wanted

%/

Hi all,

My neighbour is currently fitting out his garage and called in to take a few old number plates I have. He saw the petrol/gas pump in the corner and now wants one.

He is after an older pump but it does not have to be a hand pump type.

He is willing to restore the pump.

%/

I have put him onto the relics shops that sell the pumps and the globes, stickers/decals etc.

Anyone know of one sitting around outside an old station or on a farm.

What price etc. ??

Cheers

Bernie

Hey Bernie, I did some searching and found this site, they sell orginals, replicas, even ones with flames. I may end up getting one for the garage, if it ever gets done.

Gas Pumps

 Anything BUT cheap, I'll keep looking for ya Bernie. Just looked at the prices, $5,500 for an orginal one.

More gas pumps

Mike

Yes the prices are real!!

I had a good look around the entire site. It is amazing what they have to offer.

The Customs duty, freight and the dollar exchange would probaly put most things out of reach.

%/

I hope someone will come up and say.. "yeah there is an old one up a my Grandfathers place. You can have it.."

Then again they may add .."I will get him to throw in the old '32 Ford he has in the garage as well..

Can but hope..

That is a dream, espically the 32 Ford:LOL: I believe that the 3rd link I posted has unrestored orginals for sale, the one I looked at was around $1500. $5,500 is a lot to spend on something that sits in the garage, but then again, some people spend $375,000 on Cobras that sit in the garage:LOL: :JEKYLHYDE

Mike

We have a guy over here that converts the smaller/squat pumps into bar fridges.

Perhaps someone may "Post" a picture. Now that is useful.

With a length of chain hooked to the back of my F100 I'm sure we could get one from the local servo much cheaper.:p

Seriously though I would check out the swap meets. They come up there all the time both restored and rough ones.

Sheparton swap meet is in about 2 weeks time and I'll have my usual site 520 and 521. I'll keep an eye out if you like.

Cheers

Shepparton sounds like a good trip

Mike

**)

I may give the Cobra a run. Can I bring it inside the swap meet??

%/

Near your site parking - is that possible, if I get the Cobra inside the swap meet.

What dates again ??

Cheers

They usually have a car display in the middle of the football oval. Or if you want to keep it close by you can probably park it on our site as there should be enough room.

The Swap is on Sunday 12th September and we normally get in the gate by about 6:30 - 7:00 AM.

Bernie, How much are you willing to spend and how old of a dispenser are you looking for? Do you care if it works, etc.? I've got a line on some old Wayne dispensers used at a Gulf station, they are three wheel computers. Shipping this to you will be the major expense. Plus, no guaranty what could happen in shipping.

BMK 08-25-2004 06:20 PM

Similiar to the Wayne 70 gas pump

Steve

Thanks for coming back

Currently we are able to buy the re built/restored units that are free standing for about $2500 - 3000. Now these are not the hand pump older types.

He is looking for one of the fully enclosed types without the top bowls. Similiar to the Wayne 70 series.

The freight, customs etc. would make an import too expensive. I did email the Vintage site in the States there ( see "Posts/sites above ) and packaging, freight to the UK where they have sent one was in excess of $1500.

There was also an issue with import to the UK with quarantine of residual fuel and oil that was considered a hazard. Can you believe this?? It held things up at the port.

I see this could be a problem here. Although cars are still getting in without any real hassle to Australia ex the States.

He has indicated that he is willing to totally restore but not to working order ( only wants it for a garage addition/show).

I have had a few leads for swap meets that I will follow up for him.

I am sure that someone on this Australian forum will know of an old one behind a garage or on a farm. They are about $400 - $500 un restored and not operative. You end up buying the outers and having it painted and decals/stickers added. New hose, glass etc. and a bit of polishing is what I did.

Mine is sinmiliar to the Wayne 70 seriers but about 14 inches higher. It has an Art Decor type cover around the glass. Puts it in the mid late '30 era.

Thanks again.

Bernie, I am confident that I can get you what you want for a lot less than you may imagine. If you will send me your email address, I will send you a photograph of some Wayne dispensers that were taken out of service in working condition some twenty years ago. They are equiped with three wheel computers that compute the cost/gallon up to 99.9 (don't we wish). I can probably get you one for around $100.00. I have no idea what it might cost to crate and ship. I'm not looking to make anything here, just trying to help a mate out. :3DSMILE:

There was a heap of them recently advertised as going for auction in QLD. In Just Cars or Unique Cars or similar?

I mean a heap.

From a deceased estate of a collector or something like that.

Sorry I have no additional details.

BMK 08-30-2004 06:11 AM

Sloth

Will check out those magazines. Have seen an old site in the Just Magazines.

Perhaps someone will come up with one from behind the farm

Thanks again.
