COBRA plates for sale (QLD)

I noticed these plates have been advertised for sale today in the Trading Post. Located in Ipswich. I should remember who owns these plates, but I can't. Seems like a reasonable price....

"COBRA"

$2,500

ph: (0402) 929 435.

(I have nothing to do with the sale, I just noticed it on www.autotrader.com.au , advert uploaded today)

Just curious do you have an annual charge for those plates?

Nope.

Big upfront and then no ongoing costs

750hp 10-28-2004 06:29 AM

No - we pay through the nose to get them in the first place, but then no annual fees are charged. I just found another site www.numberplatetrader.com.au that has quite a few plates for sale.

Q23 is for sale for $50,000. Q3 and Q2 are for sale elsewhere for (supposedly) $400,000 and $300,000

I wonder what my Q777 plate is worth these days? It's nice to make one wise investment decision in my lifetime !

PCC 10-28-2004 06:32 AM

Craig,

Stephan has Q1 reportably worth more than $1 Mill.

Makes Q2 an 3 sound cheap!

csx2300 10-28-2004 07:10 PM

'Q' series represents what please?

It simply designates that the car was registered in Queensland, Australia. The first plate ever issued by the Main Roads Dept in Queensland was back in 1921, and they numbered each plate beginning with the letter Q until they eventually hit 6 figures, then changed to the current style of 3 letters and 3 numbers.

There was an auction held back in 1985, and a total of 142 lots were auctioned. The plates have proven to be a solid investment. Q23 (the plate I mentioned was for sale for $50K) sold at that auction for $3700. Other prices that day....

Q1 $100K
Q2 $31K
Q3 $15K
Q4 $13K
Q5 $13K etc

Any single digit plate is worth well over $100K now.

The high-rolling gamblers and die-hard numerologists seem to love mine :)

Graig, sell your plate and you might be able to get closer to getting that M8B McLaren !!

Closer, but still a long way away !!!

Rebel1 10-29-2004 12:53 AM

I rang the guy..tis only a show plate....not a Dept of Trans plate.

Pity...I would have bought it....bugga!!

750hp 10-29-2004 01:29 AM

Sorry to waste your time Les..... The Trading Post ad online definitely showed $2500 as the price. If he's asking that much for a show plate, then he's a bigger wanker than any of us could have imagined. If it should have read as $25.00 and the Trading Post got it wrong, he'll be taking a lot of calls from disappointed potential buyers !!!

Anyway Les, don't you have to finish your Cobra before you think about attaching a number plate. Priorities, mate.......

PCC 10-29-2004 01:41 AM

Craig, Les,

Its not the plate - Its the car;)

400TT 10-29-2004 02:45 PM

Gee, didn't expect for it not to be a real plate.

I briefly thought about it, but realised that it would have sold Thursday night if it was real plate with real spelling. Would it have gone to car enthusiast to put on their car, nope, plate reseller or someone after a quick buck would have snapped it up before any of us could get there. Well maybe Craig(750HP) could have got there in time and the rest of us could just follow the black lines. :)

PPQ

Guys,

Although we have had a thread on this, I thought I might throw in a reminder.

COBRA 5
COBRA 6
COBRA 7

Are all available through PPQ.

There are probably others, I just haven't checked.

I got mine from there "1965 AC" (see pic in my avatar), there's plenty for all :MECOOL:
