Registered at last !!!

Went to vicroads yesterday and registered the car. Was very lucky with the guy who I had as he was pretty lenient on things.
Saw my engine number then laughed  and said where did you get that from as he recognized it as a US motor, I said I made it up and he just said "I didnt hear that" %/ Then he said you cant register without w/screen so we went inside while he conferred with my engineer, then said I had to return to engineer so he could remove any reference to ARD#'s which mentioned glass/wipers on certificate. I did this returned to vicroads without cobra and he was sweet. So he only looked at the car for about 1 minute in total and that was only under the bonnet!. I had all chrome bezels fitted, chrome mirrors and he never questioned them. Only real drama was that as he new the value of what he had seen he said $40k was going to be the minimum market value of it so it cost me $1600 in F^%%&G s/duty. Well I new it was never going to be a cost saving exercise so thats that and now I can really finish it off. Thanks for all thoughts and ideas given over the build period and look forward to more.
Cheers Leeroy

Congratulations Leeroy, it must feel good to have got through that easily.

Regards.

Bathrone 11-16-2004 04:21 PM

Congrats.

Bit curios with the issue on the chrome mirrors and bezels. Do you know what ADR # refers to those rules - I wasnt aware of one? Or is it under the general safety sorta rules wihtout being specifically mentioned?

NASSTY 11-16-2004 06:45 PM

Rebel1 11-16-2004 08:29 PM

Woohoo congrats Leeroy.

You think that your worries are over don't ya?? WRONG!

Your next problem are the fellas in blue...you know the ones with the disco lights on the top of their cars.

And...

Steve Bracks cameras, although I told they're all screwed up anyways.

Take care mate and enjoy the ride.

I know the feeling of relief after you finally get the papers in you hand. You were lucky with the chrome I even put black insulation tape on the spokes of the steering wheel, and removed it as I drove out of the car park. Must be a bit breezy without a windscreen. but then again who cares.

Well done

Phil

Vicroads is watching u..

Leeroy

Well done mate.

Its best to pay the full tote on the stamp duty.

You may remember that Boyd Coddington in the States was just raided and all computers and paperwoprk was seized.

It appears that some people (now I'm not saying Boyd) had been understating the stamp duty.

Then again, Boyd did have over 20 armed agents raid his premises. So he must be a bad fellow...

OK - here's the latest here from Vicroads.

It is requirement by law to advertise both a vehicle registration or engine number when selling a car.

You sell a Cobra for $40,000 and the purchaser declares he paid $25,000 and pays the appropriate stamps duty of $40 per $1,000.
$1,000.

He has understated the Stamp duty by $600. Taking $15,000 off the actual paid price..

%/

You guessed it, the Vicroads staff have realised this and are now recording the adds in magazines, newspapers etc. and comparing advertised price and declared price.

They log the advertised price and vehicle registration number.

If there is a big discrepancy they contact the seller when the paperwork arrives with less than their calculation on stamp duty asking why and what was the selling price. A Statutory declarartion is included.

They are very aware of values and have done some training on this.

This has been happening in a number of car yards with yard owners and purchasers being picked up.

For what its worth. You will shortly see a memo going out to caryards etc. It only took so long before the recording of registrations in adds was going to be matched with stamp duty.

And us dumb buggers thought you had to put the registration number in the add to prevent theft..

Be warned..

Leeroy,
Fantastic effort! I can only hope the vic roads guys in the sticks are as layed back as the inspector you came across!!
I am green with envy that you will be cruising this summer!
Gav.

Thanks to all for your kind words and yes it is a total relief to have that behind me. No to pull it all apart and get it painted before xmas I hope. (color scheme is in my gallery) Yes your right Bernie stamp duty is best left honest but $1600 would have been nice towards paint job or some H/Power. Still making 2 trips to drop the boys off to school this week so might need some advise on how to install a dicky seat:LOL:
Cheers Leeroy
