Sterring Wheel Question (CR Boys)
A question for the Classic Revival lads about steering wheels.
I was thinking of using a Moto Lita mohogany/birch wheel, my question is do I use a 6 bolt or 9 bolt wheel? Also what boss is required when using the Suzuki column? Any part numbers or suppliers would help. Happy new year. (after the hang over):JEKYLHYDE Dale. |
Hey there Dale, I bought mine form ebay and it has a label on it saying part # BK150L
It is made by BOSS. The price tag says autobahn was the retailer. it is a 6 hole adapter but you can get an adapter machined up to make it a 9 hole. |

I did the same as boxhead but got mine at autobarn. Not moto lita but an autotechnica 14" like it and I think my gallery has a pic of it. Aussie Mike has done a great job of his, check his gallery also Leeroy |
SAAS make a cast aluminium 6 bolt boss that is a good bassis for any wheel. Autotecnica make a boss too but it's a mix of steel bracket and aluminium base so not as adaptable.
I liked the look of the 9 bolt Motolita wheel so I machined down the SAAS boss and machined up an adaptor ring to step it up. I also machined up my own horn button assembly for a cleaner look. I was having a look at the Autotecnica wheel that Leeroy has. My local auto parts shop has one of the wall and I was in there yesterday. They are a nice wheel with a thicker wood grip that will probably be more comfortable to use. It also has a 6 bolt center that will bolt straight up. You should check it out before dropping the $$$ on the Motolita.
I just like the look of the spindly wood rim Motolita wheel and I hadn't seen the Autotecnica when I bought mine. Cheers |

Have found a boss kit and will look at the autotecnica wheel before deciding. Could someone send me a pic that is taken from the side which shows the dash and ignition key location (and steering wheel boss). Just so I can visualize the set up. Thanks Dale. |

Hey there mike, I think I have asked this before but is your wheel 14 inch or 15?
If I was to get a 15 inch wheel do you think it would require the door to be modified for clearance? |

Hi mate. Hope you have a good year. My pedals have a cast double lug on the back of them. I drilled the double lug and the steel pedal arm. Placed a bolt and ny- lock through. Used 1/4 unc bolt and ny - lock. Do you have the pedals.? If not Don Pilling at Snake bite has them cheaper than most other suppliers. I painted my 'AC' letters out also. The 'AC' is aluminium and the recessed area is gloss black. Makes the 'AC' stand out. Not sure if you can see them on my gallery clearly enough. Cheers Bernie |

Mines the 14" version. I think the 15" wheel is going to be a bit snug next to the door. Besides the steering with the LS1 in the front is pretty light so you don't need the bigger wheel. Mando, as Bernie mentioned there is a boss on the back of the pedal you need to machine to fit the arm. I machined a slot in each one and then drilled and tapped them. A bolt runs through the boss and throug the end of the arm. There is a nylock that acts as a lock nut. My pedals are set up to pivot inder your foot. This makes them a bit more comfortable as you press them as they stay flat with the ball of your foot. I bent up some springs to keep them straight and aligned and stop them rattling. I did a set for Phil and he reports that they feel natural under foot, you don't even notice them. Cheers |
Yeah that was what I thought aswell.
There is a wheel on ebay that I bid on before realiseing it was 15inch. Someone else has outbid me now so I wont bother upping my price. |

Mike, what is the difference between the 6 bolt and 9 bolt moto-lita wheel apart from the inside diameter. Will they both take a horn button? |

Just to test yor memory, was the wheel in your local auto shop the same as the one used by Leigh with the rivets on it. Refer leeroys gallery (I would attach his pic if I knew how) My autobarn is saying you cannot get that type anymore and I'm not keen on the one he showed me. Could I have the name of the shop and address if you wouldn't mind please? We don't have much to choose from here in sleepy hollow and it may save me a trip to the other side of hell, 'oh, sorry I mean Melbourne'. Only kidding, Dale |

I asked them how much they can do it for and they said $135 for the wheel and about $59 for the boss kit.
