What I did on my car today

Hey there again everyone.
Well I was hopeing for some more parts for my car to show up through the week but frieght let me down (again)
I was waiting for door locks and latches, alternator mounting bolts and rebuilt steering rack to keep me busy over the long weekend.
So even though my head was feeling alittle worse for wear (drinks with friends then smoke detector went off this morning at 2.00 am) I decided to tackle the wireing harness for the engine.

Well I had to remove the BCM connector and associated unused wireing, Also had to remove the Throttle relaxer (traction control) module wireing and connector, also the ac compressor wireing.

Here you can see that I pined the harness to a large sheet of cardboard and tied it to the wall to make it all easier to access.
You can see on the far right and centre right some wire hanging loose, these are from the unwanted BCM & trac control modules.

Here you can see the wires alittle better.

In this pic you can see the wires are all removed that I dont need.
The wires hanging over the top are (orange) fused power supply, (yellow) serial data - for scan tool, (pink) fused power again, (brown & grey wires in centre) reverse light switch, (brown wire on the right) tacho, I cant remeber there colors now but on the right there is also fuel pump relay, speedo sender & fan relay.

I wasnt looking forward to doing this job but after speaking to afew guys who can tune the ls1 useing different tools they all assured me that what I was doing was correct and they can reset my pcm so that the bcm & immobilser systems are all switched off.

If anyone is getting ready to do this part of there car let me know if you need any questions answered, I will try to help.

Fingeres crossed that it all works now.

If pinning it to the cardboard makes things clearer then it must have been bloody complicated before :-P.

Time for some stupid questions (Im on a steep learning curve here). I assume thats the engine loom right? The loom for the rest of the electrics is separate? Ive seen in the past a mate make up his own wiring loom using a template and pinning it out on a board (years ago so my memory may be a little off). Has anyone ever attempted to make there own loom. Surely if you had a wiring diagram and a lot of time on your hands it wouldnt be that difficult?

Hope your xmas and new year was good. Not looking forward to going back to work thats for sure. xmas was a series of ups and downs with better half in regards to the cobra. We went on a winery tour of the Hunter on xmas eve....saw one go past and the approval rating went way up...right up until Uncle Bob says..I had a mate who took 7 years to build one of them. Approval rating plummeted. (Bob.....pi$$ed uncles should be seen but not heard)

Today she calls me from Kiama...Ive just paked next to one she says. Beautiful.....she then circles the car slowly describing it bit by bit....followed by a "I want one"...Yeee haaaaa....approval rating way up again...uncle Bobs unfortunate comment all forgotten....when do I start. :-)

I think it is probably easier to modify an existing loom, as atleast then you have all the connectors you need (there are alot)

Good to hear the Cobra is back on the OK list.
allways easier when the boss says its ok to get one.

I too have heard of builds that take alot of years, but I think they are more people who dont look into what is actaully involved in getting it done and getting done right.

My engine loom

One wire from ign/sw to coil.
One wire from ign/sw to starter solenoid.
One wire from coil to tacho.
One wire from temp sender to temp gauge.
One wire from oil pressure sender to oil pressure gauge.
One wire from alternator to charge light on dash.
I think thats about it.
Cheers,
Bryan

BMK 01-07-2005 04:15 AM

Hey Dale

Now I new that you 'Dark Side' guys would end up working together for the beter of humanity...

Bernie

boxhead 01-07-2005 02:18 PM

No worries Dale, I will copy a wireing harness diagram and mark what to do with which wire.
I will need to know what harness you have as they are all slightly different from each model.

P.s the PM you sent never made it through.

cobbindale 01-08-2005 05:12 PM

Thanks Boxhead,

My loom is from a VX manual mid '02, minus the red and blue plugs and PCM. (some other little sh*t had a better use for them).
Send it to stapo4@bigpond.com and I can forward on the info from scott on the 2 wiper system used on the Harrison Cobras.

Cheers,

Dale.

cobbindale 01-08-2005 05:18 PM

We have to Bernie, its the only way we can finish our cars.

boxhead 01-08-2005 09:34 PM

I hope you didnt pay any money for a loom without the red and blue connectors.
You cannot use the loom without them and to buy new ones plus terminals would cost more than what you would pay for a complete loom.

cobbindale 01-09-2005 04:38 PM

No, came with the motor. Have picked up a couple of plugs from an auto version and just need to remate them.
Have worked out most of the pins, just need to confirm pin out and comms plug I think.

pneall 01-10-2005 07:35 PM

Hi darkside guys, make sure you do all that loom stuff before you put in in the car. I didn't to my detriment .

I am modifying my loom now so my motor looks as pretty as Mikes , what a ***** of a job, back is stuffed from leaning over the engine bay and arms are buggered from laying under the car and working on the loom that runs above the gearbox.Had to extend O2 sensor wires for side pipes

Character building thats what it is:CRY:

Hope to see you all at the Shelby Fest, sent my cheque yesterday.

Boxhead, Your battery box should be finidshed next week

Phil.

boxhead 01-10-2005 07:47 PM
