Finally Placed the order

Hi Guys,

about a year ago I posted a thread about staring a project. Well after a whole heap of research and a lot of should we, shouldn't we. Pete (co conspiritor) and myself have placed the order with Ian at Classic Revival.

Thank you all for your input and we either went and met with, our spoke with just about every Cobra kit builder in Australia. Being in Sydney and Ian being Sydney as well, also makes it easy. From what I can see he also has a really good kit.

So we have bought the Jag fronts ends and now just need a chassis to bolt it all too. So I am sure you see me on here a whole lot more asking really stupid questions.

Cheers

Congratulations !!! So what's the current plan as far as engine type, paint colour, stripe or no stripe, interior fabric and colour, trans type, wheel style and size, etc, etc.

I'm sure you have a bit of an idea already, but it's fun to see how the plan changes as the build progresses. Have fun with the build !

Congratulations Churchy & Pete.
I am sure you will enjoy the build and have plenty of questions.
As they say "There are no stupid questions".

cobbindale 01-15-2005 03:24 AM

Congrats guys,
Now the fun begins, enjoy.

Cheers,
Dale.

Churchy 01-15-2005 03:02 PM

Thanks for this guys.

Arrr.. Current plans, which I am sure will change.

LS1 Donk, 6 Speed, pretty standard build from Ian's spec's.

Tan Leather interior, Colour is either metalic Blue or Black., and for $64 question. The stripe is still up for debate. I do not want it, however Pete does. So by the time we get too that desicion, we will have had many discussion's fueled by the contents of the Magic Fridge. (it just happens to reside in garage).. Hic

Wheel choice, not thier yet , however we have 18" rims in mind not sure what style yet.

And I am sure we will have many questions and I am looking forward to throwing them at you guys. I have kept track of this forum during the year and the advice going round is great.

So onward into the fog.

Cheers

Congrats.

Good luck with building a kit with a partner. I have successfully done it twice with my brother, first DRB Cobra, then Harrison Cobra. And we still talk to each other. :D

On the downside you will have to make lots of compromises and when things are not going well, you won't have much to say to each other. But on the flip side, with 2 heads thinking about the build, you end with some really good ideas and a far better build at the end of it. Plus you can leverage of each persons talents.

And if you are like me, it's much more fun to work on a car with someone, than by yourself. :)

I have only 5 words of wisdom when it comes to building Cobras - "Ask Club Members" & "Swap Meets".

750hp 01-15-2005 06:40 PM

I thought the five words usually ended up "Oh heck, it's only money"....

mate 01-15-2005 08:00 PM

i thought it was..."the mrs won't find out.... :D

Being not too far away from placing an order (I hope), what sort of wait are you up for at CR?

Cheers

Churchy 01-16-2005 02:49 PM

We placed the order in Mid December for a Chassis and body. Ian said that we should be able to take delivery in June.

So we have been busy buying and pricing the parts for the running gear, so we have stuff to bolt to it when it arrives.

Tenrocca 01-16-2005 02:54 PM

Thats about when I want to start so I better get my arse into gear if I go with the CR. Harrison wait is about 6 weeks. Hoping to have a look at one in the next week or 2.

NASSTY 01-16-2005 04:12 PM

Congrats Churchy!

Wise decision! :)

Leeroy 01-16-2005 04:16 PM

well done and congrats Churchy, I am sure you will be happy with your choice as I surely am. As boxhead says there are no stupid questions so post them and I am sure you will enjoy the answers. Again well done and look forward to your progress
Cheers Leeroy

I thought the 5 words where "DONT LET HER SEE INVOICES"

Mando 01-16-2005 07:36 PM

Congatulations, I think it would be terrific building the car with someone else.

Regards.

boxhead 01-16-2005 08:22 PM

Wow 6 month wait, I thought mine took too long at 6 weeks, then an extra week to freight it too me.

Tenrocca 01-16-2005 08:28 PM

Makes for a bloody big dilema for someone in my shoes. I dont want to have to wait till mid year to order then wait another 6 months

I think the preverbial would hit the fan at my house if I suddenly mentioned..."oh yes honey. Ive ordered the car today". Not until that bloody front yard is done at least :p. Think Ill leave work early, get myself home and start that paving.....

boxhead 01-16-2005 10:16 PM

Oh well if the preverbial does hit the fan you can just spread it around the front garden while you are landscapeing it.

Pete here (the other half of the churchy cobra project).
I love all these comments about the wife, but I have the secret weapon - I bought her a V8 SS ute about three years ago - now she's hooked on V8;'s (took me months to get her weaned off the Mazda MX5). So the Cobra has been described as an MX5 with a V8 - so she's keen as !

Anyway thanks for all your positive comments boys - we'll keep you posted with progress and continual stupid and entertaining questions.
