Engine Mount Alteration Question
Ok, I know that there has been a number of threads about engine mounts. And, I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box, so I would like to ask your advice before I stuff something up.:CRY:
I have made my measurements and I have found that the CR chassis mount positions give 445mm between centres. The engine with the mounts and rubber attached give me a 485mm distance between centres. I'm a whole 4cm to wide! So having invented a lot of new four letter words, I will move on; The solution is..........??????? %/ And before anyone suggests it I did try closing my eyes counting to ten and re measuring, it did not help:CRY: :CRY: :CRY: :CRY: Cheers SNKBTE |
There is probably enough flex in the rubber mounts to allow for the 4MM mismatch? I would think it could be made to work. If you are using solid mounts get out the grinder.

Are you using the Corvette foot or the Holden foot on the drivers side. The Corvette on side have a cut out on the front most face where as the Holden on does not. I had the same problem and pick up a new foot from Eagle Auto Spares for around $160. Both the left and right hand side should look about the same. Hope this helps I'm going through the same sh*t with oil pans. Cheers, Dale. |
When I used my Holden aluminium mount on the right hand side I was 55mm out.
I took the mount to a local welding company and with the flat part that the rubber sits on sitting horizontal on a bench, they cut 55mm out of it and welded it back together. When I bolted it to the block and fitted the rubber mount then lowered it onto my chassis it fell straight into the hole. I will try to get some close up pics this weekend of the mount so you can see where it has been welded together. |
SNKBTE do yourself a favour and buy the corvette mounts. They not only look great (cast alum.) but they fit perfectly into Ian mounting points without too many 4 letter words. Also you may have to machine some spacer to go between chassis points & mounts to raise the front of motor for the pulley to clear steering rack. Think my spacers were about 10mm thick.

This is the photo of the two mounts I'm using.
I'm looking forward to seeing the photo of your amended mount Boxhead. Did you have concerns about structural integrity after cut and weld? I'll contact Eagle about an alternate Corvette Mount.%/ Leeroy which mount did you replace with the corvette mount left, right or both? :3DSMILE: Do you have a part number? and or photo. I used both L&R without any modifications at all just bolted them down. I dont have p/n's but I'm sure Eagle will be able to assist. I think there is only one type for the corvette. I will look at them for p/n.

The right one pictured is the same as the Corvette. As Leeroy said, just spend the mony and get the other side Corvette mount from eagle.

Getting There!
Thanks for the advice, I decided to go with buying a second corvette style mount. Eagle Melbourne had one left in stock. It has arrived and the spacing is perfect :D :D :D :D :D
Next question, on the top of the rubber mount is a little round pin which fits into the mounting ear. On the bottom of the rubber mount is this little protruding rectangle. Do you grind it off or attempt to make a comparable hole in the chassis engine supports? :( Cheers SNKBTE |
File it off and cut the bolt thread down to about 25mm.

Unless Ian has changed his engine mount position you will need 20-25mm spacer bewteen rubbery engine mount and chassis so that the front pulley clears the steering rack. You have probably worked that out by now. Make sure you put earth strap from engine mount to chassis or from some other part of engine to chassis. I went around engine mount as it was concenient.
