Vapor lock?

I have a 351w and my engine builder installed a steel fuel line and runs about a half an inch up and over and around the water pump. Wondering if the heat from the water pump could cause vapor lock? What happens is, after the engine warms up and I turn it off and let it set for a short time and get in and turn it over and as I take off sometimes it misses and sputters and chokes and then it clears up after a short time? Is there an insulator I can rap around the fuel line in that area as a fix? Any ideas:confused: thanks in advance....

Sounds to me like you're perculating the fuel out of the carb. When you shut the engine off, the heat radiated from the engine and headers makes under hood temp raise to the point where the gas in the fuel bowls boils and evaporates or drips into the engine. When you start the car, there is enough gas in the intake, to make it run, but your fuel bowls are empty. Best bet is find a way to get rid of underhood temps, and isolate the carb, with a phenolic spacer.

A buddy of mine just recieved a Roush 427 and it was boiling the bowls. If fact it was so hot you almost couldn't touch it. Installed a phenolic spacer and corrected the problem. Easier starting, no misses, sputters and runs great. He used the 1/2" and might go taller (1") if the hood clearance allows.
Old trick I used on my 52 chevy, attatch wooden clothes pegs along the fuel line. My how times have changed!
Just my 2 cents
