4 Point Harness
someone on an earlier thread pointed out that a 4 point harness is illegal in a cobra. noticed in the Repco catalogue that there is a Autotecnica Monza 4 Point Harness that is ADR approved.I rang and the bloke (Tony) said that it has the ADR numbers for proof of approval.
Is the cobra a special case for non-approval regarding a 4 point harness, or are there other ADR regs that it must meet, or is there some other reason why it is not permissable? |
The main problem it may have is that it probably isnt self tensioning like all new car seatbelts are .
Im currently going through they same questions with my engineer , There is also a MOMO harness that has ADR . My engineer was saying he should be able to get it passed but i may need to get a sticker made up to put somewhere on the dash that is a warning simmilar to the airbag ones you see in new cars saying that you need to adjust the seat belts . I had a look at them at the local Repco store. If its the ones I saw they are $99 each and are 2" and to be honest I am not sure I would like to be held in by them if you hit the wall at any speed.

i have just been informed from my engineer that all systems a go for me to fit 4 point harnesses to the Cobra . Apparently as long as the harness you buy has an ADR approval it doesnt need to be self adjusting . There are a couple of brands available now that have been ADR aprooved . Please check with your engineer first before purchasing . Paul |
If you want them for show then OK. But if you want something to restrain you if you hit a wall on track day then dont even consider the 4 point 2" design.
For comfort and safety go for 3" over the shoulders and highly recommend crutch strap, it stops you sliding forward and also keeps the "buckle" in the right place. Expect to pay $350.00 plus per harness. The mounting is also critical. Phil. |
I agree with Phil on this one. They may be fine as an alternative to a regular seat belt on the street. I've looked at these haenesses and I wouldn't trust one on a track. Personally I'd have regular seat belts for convenience and a clip in FAI approved 3" 5 point harness for the track.

Just bought from Revolution Racegear 2off 3" 4 point RPM saloon harness for $359 each. Has provision to add 5th point also if you require. Do many of you run with these as street belts as well?

:eek: No sorry not joining the Dark Side. I'm changing the cam, the Victor Jnr.manifold and the 750 dbl pumper carby. The cam, manifold and carby combo at the moment gives a hell of a lot of top end. I'm not using it that much with all the road driving, so just going to a Performer, Crowe street/strip cam and small primary set up carby etc. Gas/fuel mileage may also improve from the 8mpg highway to 16mpg highway..:LOL: I'm also building a new exhaust to get down from 117dBA to about 95dBA or so. Adding the PCV valve and a gas/fuel carbon cannister. Anyones guess as to why I'm doing all this..:LOL: F:LOL:CK THEM.. but must comply, I guess. Bernie |

I run the 5 point 3" belts. I've been stopped once or twice and nothing has been said about the belts. :LOL:..its just the noise and the other things that keep em distracted. %/ Bernie |

117 dB strewth. Your eardrums will appreciate the change. Mikes pipes make a real nice noise. Probably not legal when you are having a go but will not upset anyone when cruising ot trundling around town. The mods you are doing should make it more enjoyable as a daily driver and your Cobra sure fits that bill. On the trip to Winton I got just on 10 litres per 100 kms so was happy with that . The return run wasnt so good as I was on a trailer and I picked up the fuel bill for the F350 and the Cobra that i displaced. Those F350's have a 120 litre tank and I filled it twice:CRY: :CRY: Can't complain as I got home. There is another Mr Pink car in Vic. Hope to catch up at Wakefield. Phil:D :D |
