Ferrari TR250 reproduction
http://www.finchrestorations.com/rem...estarossa.html
http://www.finchrestorations.com/srcfiles/detail1.jpg Paul, you floored me when you said you work for Finch Restorations. That Ferrari reproduction is a thing of beauty. What role do you play in the company? Please tell me you are a pencil pusher in the office. I already feel insignificant enough with the hands-on talent displayed on this site...... I'd love to hear more about the Ferrari (out of interest only). Have you made more than one? What's the ballpark price? Do you have any bigger detail photos available? Thanks mate, Craig |
Craig ,
Yes im a pen pusher :D :D NOT The 2 that have been made so far have gone to the good old USA and there wasnt allot of change from 200g  But what you must relaize is these 2 where fully loaded with the correct original Ferrari equipment of the era and that costs a f-ing lot of dosh and alot of time to find . Bassicaly the only part of these cars that were not ferrari is the chassis, the body and exhaust . And they are an awsome looking bit of equipment in the flesh . I keep hassleing the boss to update the photos looks like i may need to use the pursuader on his head  . He is currently working with an enginner over here to make some road going versions for OZ with wait for it ......... wait for it .......... super charged Gen 3 power Yeah Baby . All the chassis has been aprooved so we will be starting on the body shortly . He is hoping the road registered aussie version will be around 100g and it will be absolutely amazing . There will not be many things that would beat it , From memory it weighs about 650- 700 with the ferrari gear so probably a bit less with gen 3 and more than likely a WRX diff . Got you thinking now hey Paul |

If you're taking about putting a small block Chev into the Ferrari, then I think I'm going to throw up. Nothing against Chev or Ford motors, but I just cannot imagine seeing the beautiful lines of the TR destroyed by a late-model V8..... It certainly wouldn't look right, and it wouldn't even sound right. |
Paul, how about some detail photos???
You have my interest. |
I will try to get more photos on within the next week or so of the Ferrari .
As to the Ferrari getting aussie rego the same rules apply to it that also hit our Cobras regarding emmisions . So yes the gen 3 is a more than likely contender for the oz ferrari unless of course the customer wants to shell out for a complient ferrari motor than that will go in . You could probbably get a current modena motor for about 60g :JEKYLHYDE . It may not get the gen3 the boss is still in talks with the rego guys so it is still a toss up , i personally would like to see a current Ferrari motor in them but i dont need to pay for it so hey . Paul :3DSMILE: |
I just put some pics in my gallery of the TR250 but i will get more next week .

Looks great. It is a real pity that these cars cannot be reproduced with the motor and set up of the era. D type jaguar etc. I have a vision of reproducing Cobras with 60's motors and running gear. Perhaps not the same set up as CS did it. Just think about Cobras that have 9" live rear ends, toploaders, 289/302's with four barrels etc. What I'm saying is that I just cannot understand why a 60's Cobra cannot be built and registered. Dreaming.. Bernie |
Bernie,
If Cobras were made before 1958 you could. Hot rodders have been doing it for years. Craig, Very nice work!! I see the Ferrari uses a Jag front end but what's the rear end out of? Cheers |
Mike, I think the combined cobra clubs have a committee to look into whats needed to write our own standard as the hot rod fellas did.
If this is true then the year of cut off would be defined by the clubs in that manual. I believe thats how the hot rod paternity achieved their goal. They wrote the standard, got it approved, and all cars have to abide by that standard. A big job but given that their manual exists then it would be a good starting point to use as a guide for a cobra manual. I nominate Bernie to crack the whip. He ownes a money making franchise, so doesn't really havta work himself, and uses a council phone to make calls. Besides, he's got the vision. ;)  |
Hey Les
The vision....you can only imagine what I see after a few Bundaberg Rums..%/ No problem just send down a few cases and I'm onto the job...**) Bernie |
Aussie Mike
Did I hear you say that you have found a 1957 Cobra somewhere..%/. I remember seeing it also..:3DSMILE: Bernie |
Mike,
I hear its an ACE looking car - sorry too many G & T's before going out - Its going to be a long night! |
That might just be a loop hole worth exploring. If you registered the car as an AC Ace which first came out in 1954 would you be able to get it through the same as the hot rod guys do with fiberglass 32 Fords?
No problems with emissions then, the car just has to run on unleaded. Worth asking an engineer about I reckon. Cheers |
Aussie Mike
The early Jaguar replicas just seem to go through that way. Total reproduction of that era car. Now we don't want to get 'tooo' authentic or we may end up running six cylinder motors with SU's....ask the question. AC badging, painted wire wheels, 289, toploader, 9" rear etc etc....**) Bernie |
Pretty sure there are Aces's in Oz.
Read a recent article where a lady here used her's daily including shopping at the local Woolies! Drive 'em - enjoy e'm!!! |

http://i18.ebayimg.com/01/i/03/aa/55/56_12_b.JPG There are some gaudy bits that would need attention, but what a great little car for the money !!! |
OK
Who wants to have a guess what this goes for in US dollars. After reading the information on the roadster I feel it will easily reach the top estimate in the Gold book. Bernie |
That could ba a loop hole that you could use there Mike, I wonder why it hasnt been thought of before.
If the hot rod guys can build a pre 1958 car with a non standard motor and larger wheels, different guards or no guards the why cant you build a 195? AC ACE with modified guards and a different engine? |
The front suspension in this car is as Mike said modified Jag but the rear is WRX .
Paul |
