Fuel tanks
Just a quick question to you guys.
If I get a new alloy tank made does it need to be inspected or certified to be approved for rego?

I reckon you would be OK. Just about every other Cobra kit in the country uses a fabricated tank of some description.

Right now the rules dont require us to pass front or rear collision tests so alloy tanks are ok but once they make us have to pass those test then alloy may not be flexible enough to withstand testing . My Engineer will be doing crash tests on alloy tank soon to see how good or bad they are . I think warwick supplied him one to test .

Boxhead, I have heard that if you are to have a custom fuel tank made, it must be welded by a certified tradesperson/welder, in order to have it pass the pits. This is the reason why I used a donor fuel tank, was a cheaper option for me too.

Yeah my car uses a donor tank aswell, but I just love the way an alloy one looks under the back.
