We have the technology...
Well here's the first of the goodies I brought back with me from China.
With all the Hoo-Ha going on about exhaust noise and emissions etc I thought I'd better get myself some test equipment. This is a digital sound level meter and it's a neat piece of kit. It's got some cool features like being able to filter out background noise and a max hold feature. Max hold means I can set it up and then hop in the car and do a run up then hop out and se what the peak reading was. I figure if I'm building side pipes then I'll want to know what sort of results diffeent baffles give. Is that your ute??? I thought you were a Holden man, since your putting a Holden/Chev engine in your cobra?? I dont mind Chev, But if its a Holden, No way!!!!! He He!!!!!

Yep the Ute is my daily driver. I've always liked Fords and I've owned 6 of them over the years. I also like the products from a lot of other manufacturers and I try to take each of them on their own merits.

The other toy is a machine I've wanted for a while. I've been joining bits of metal together for years now I'll be able to cut them apart as well. I picked up a 40 Amp plasma cutter. I love the engineering shops over there and they are all usually in one district in the citys. You can spend a day or more wandering up and down the countless shops looking at all the goodies. Heaps of machines for every job and the quality is getting pretty good now.
There were some nice looking tube benders that produced some excellent results in thin wall tubing. A neat design that could turn a 6" diameter coil of 1/2" SS tube of about 4 or 5 turns. I nearly bought a new TIG welder but I had a bit much bagage and equipment with me and didn't want to pay the excess baggage. I found a nice AC/DC unit that produced nice results on Aluminium but it was about 25-30KG. Maybe next time I'll pack extra light when I go over. I found the site for the company that made the plasma cutter. It looks like it'll actually cut 16mm steel plate which is a nice surprise as I was trying to read the Chinese brochure and thought it was only 8mm. Yeah, Nice ute Mike. Ever thought about trading to a BA??? It seems you like toys a lot, so that could be another new one in the garage!!!! Those BA's are superb, particularly the control blade IRS, it makes for a brilliant ride. I heard that a guy actually put one of those setups into a Cobra, man I bet its real comfy!!! Now if only the BA's could ditch a few hundered kilos they would be perfect!!!

No, just a couple of 3500PSI liquid filled pressure guages in my hand luggage. Got some attention from the airport security people who wondered what they were for.
I'm fitting one up to my hydraulic press so I can can calculate the tonage. Cheers |
Yep it's a genuine Pursuit 250. The last and the strongest of the Windsors. It's the same motor as the TS50 a 347 with billet rods.
The Pursuit 250 actually turns the 1/4 faster than the new pursuit 290 thanks to it's lower weight and torquier motor. I was originally looking at a BA ute when I bought the Pursuit. The pursuit just added up to a much better package for the money. Cheers |

Mike, How come it has the XR8 Badges?? And doesnt the hard deck cover usually have a wing as standard?? I have seen AU Pursuits here in NZ and they dont have XR* Badges (if I remember correctly) and they had a wing. Whats Up???

The wing is an option that most people usually take up but this one was ordered without one. I have to say I've never been keen on the wing, it makes the rear end a bit busy looking so this suits me.
The AU3 Pursuit 250s were built by Ford as part of the XR8 family unlike the TE50 and TS50 which were built under the Tickford banner. Concequently they all had XR8 badging. I'm not sure why they did this but the BA Pursuit is now built under the FPV banner along with the GT, GT-P and Typhoon. The AU2 Pursuit was just a standard XR8 with a body kit and different wheels. I believe this was a dealer option. The AU3 Pursuit 250 was factory built and was a lot different to the regular XR8 ute. They run a lot of the runnng gear from the Tickford TS50. including the engine and trans, Premium brakes, lowered suspension etc. They were also available in the colours the regular XR's weren't available in. The Blueprint paint on mine was a Pursuit or Tickford only colour till it was later released on the BA. The Pursuit 250 is also fairly rare with only 250 built. I guess some people may have removed their XR8 badging. Cheers |
