Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. As someone who has suggled grass, guns and more (mostly for our government) I will tell you there are countries she would have been executed for this.
So I guess the sentence was what it is. Justice |

Must say I agree with you on supporting any person or country in similiar circumstances. But what makes my pockets deep and my arms short now as far as Bali and Indonesia is the fact that our Government is being treated very second/third rate. On the 15th of May, our Prime Minister sent a letter to the Defence team regarding the baggage handlers and their being caught smuggling drugs on the same day that Corby flew from Sydney to Brisbane and then international to Denpasar, Bali. This letter expressed the concern that, both our Federal Police and our Government had concerns regarding the transportation of drugs internally in Australia. Also this letter covered the fact that a number of domestic/international baggage handlers had been stood down and charged by the Federal Police in Australia regarding transportation of drugs. All very coincidental. A fact that cast some doubt on the 'onus of prooof' on any drugs found in passengers bags by Police or Customs. Very hard to prove guilt of any passenger caught with drugs whilst this scam was operating. Well our friend the Judge in Indonesia stated that the letter from Australia was irrelevant and he put no emphasis on it... Now when our prime Minister offered 100's of millions of dollars support to the same governement they say his letter as very relevant then.. In Australia we call it a "Kangaroo Court" - your guilty before the court even sits. Its now very interesting that Corby's mother has come out saying that she was told to be silent and let the court and the judicial system take its course. She is now screaming very loud that there were a number of witnesses who saw the Boogie Board bag partially open and heard Corby say it was not her plstic bag inside the boogie board cover. These witnesses were not called or permitted to give evidence on her behalf - why not, had the Judge made up his mind before any evidence was given. The Judge has openly said he has tried 500 case and has never found one innocent.... Hell they must have outstanding court Presecutors in Indonesia or just a corrupt legal system. Corby's mother stated that her daughter has never used drugs and had in no way admitted ownership of the drugs found in her open Boogie board cover. In fact her mother has stated that her daughter constitantly has denied any knowledge of the drugs and had no control over the boogie board whilst boarding and leaving the planes enroute to Bali. Where too from here for her. It will unfold soon I guess. We can only guess what will happen. %/.. perhaps she wil leave prison in the dark of night also. Bernie |
Best option!
If the system is really that corrupt, then it's probably her best option.
Good luck, to her! jdog P.S. You might start collection money to buy her out. |

Boxhead,
I tend I agree with you that Corby and the Tsunami relief should be treated as two totally separate issues. Indoesias people are not respondsible for Corbys situation. Its impossible to know if shes guilty or not, but as previous post suggested, all the media coverage surrounding this case has not helped her in any way. Previous experience tells me that she would have had an extremely good chance of buying her way out through her lawyers once all the dust had settled. This is impossible now. Regards. |

I have just driven back along highways to Mt. Gambier and have seen a number of signs on the road with "Boycott Bali" and others. My feelings is that I would dig deep for the Indonesian people in the event of any distaster. But to hell with giving this Indonesian Government millions of dollars to rebuild city streets etc. Also the amount of on the ground support that ours and the US governement has given the Indonesian Government with field experts, Military, Air Force is something that I would not support now. My main reason is that the Indonesian Judicial system and now the Government have treated both our Politicians and all Aussies' with contempt. We all have been told to mind our own business and it is apparent that they ignore even our PM. News reports in Melbourne had a number of senior Indonesian officials and experts in law saying that we should' butt out'. Again just my thoughts. Just heard someone say that we should ban all air traffic movements to Bali and tie up all Indonesian shipping in port until she is realised....don't think we will have to much trouble with our wharfies/longshoremen in doing that. Air Traffic staff have also known to be militant unionist over time..:3DSMILE: Bernie |
I agree with you Bernie in the fact that Australians should look elsewhere for holidays.
My wife and I holidayed in Bali late last year (about 1 month after she was caught) and agreed we would love to go back as it really felt as if the people couldnt do enough for you & we had a great time. Well I can tell you our holiday destinations have changed. |
I heard on 60 minutes tonight htat there are 42 other Australians in the Indonesian prison system for Drug realted offenses... where was their media beat up!?!
Sorry I have to say that it is a sad if she is not guilty, but there is a possibility she was just 'yelling louder' that she was innocent than the other 41 people... |

Judo approach!
Use the opponents own momentum against them!
If this system is as corrupt as they say, use it to her advantage. Money could be the answer. I agree that all of the 'world' press coverage won't help her much for this approach! jdog:cool: P.S. I say this not because I think she is innocent, but she deserves a 'fair' trial! |
The statue of limitations for such things here Todd is 4 years. My point is in certain countries the peanalty for such crimes is death. I never took the drugs I smuggled, I hope they never got taken by children. Mostly they were used to destroy the enemies will to fight or even show up to fight, induce paranoia, mistrust and generally destroy moral.
You know the risks you take your chances. The rewards are great as are the penalties. Had we been caught we would have been killed. We didn't get caught. My favorite quote on the subject come from a former Director Of Operations... A name evey one of you will know. "If the people were to ever find out what we have done, we would be chased down the streets and lynched." In our case it wasn't about the money, we defeated communism in this hemisphere and funded operations abroad, the phillipines, former baltic states. Which all fell well before the former Soviet Union. |
SCOBRAC,
What are you on about? |
We will never really know if she was innocent or not but the biggest issue here is that you must prove your innocence rather than the prosecution proving your guilt as is the case in western democracies. The former is much harder to do than the later.
My wife and I have not yet travelled to Bali but now we never will. While the media might have robbed Corby the opportunity to bribe her way out of it all, the pressure exerted by the media may force change either by changing peoples minds to travel to Bali or if the Australian government feels that it becomes an election issue, threatens to withdraw aid. It seems unfortunate than in this situation, regardless of the outcome, the only thing that talks the most is money. |
Now the Indonesian Prosecutors want her sentence changed from 20 to Life
I heard today that she has lodged an Appeal against her sentence.
Additionally, the Indonesian Prosecution has lodged an Appeal against the light sentence she got. The Prosecution want death or life for her. Wonder which side will win... There has been a 26% cancellation rate in Bali according to the Bali Hotels Association President on the news tonight. I thought, wait until people really start backing out of holidays and deals. Or boycotting the place...%/ Bernie |
I think she did it !!!
My turn now,,,,,
At first I thought she was innocent. BUT when I saw all the evidence provided I think she is guilty. It is too accurate and the bag seemed to fit quite well.Anyone with half a brain would realise the 4kg difference.... Therefore she must have known...... The most important point is that her Mother should get 20 years for being such a ferral, trailer trash, potty mouth, stupid imbred piglet I have ever seen!!!:JEKYLHYDE She has done more harm than good...... When the verdict was read, she didn't seem that upset,if I was innocent and in her shoes, I would have acted like her Mother... Stiffy.....:3DSMILE: |
I'm with you stiffy. If both her parents kept their redneck views to themselves she may be serving a lesser sentence. On your point though when your boogie bag weighs 2kg when your boarding & weighs 6kg when you pickup from baggage surely alarm bells would ring:( Just wait and see the reaction of the parents of the Bali 9.

Guys,
There's always two sides of the argument and we are clearly not in a position to judge. As said before, there's only one person who knows and that's the one locked up. Never fancied going to Bali anyway! One thing for sure, it makes you think where ever you travel abroad. If baggage issues occur here then for sure they are just as big a problem (if not bigger) in europe, asia, americas etc etc etc. If Shapelle had been a guy, would there be as much uproar. I here the Bali Jail is full of europeans, americans and others that are in exactly the same position. Do we hear from their families???? Outside Australia i.e. Europe, this case has had little if any exposure. We sometimes think that what is news here is news all over the world - not so!!! |
Guess Schappelle Mother is not on your Christmas card list or dinner party list
Stiffy
"Please explain" Sorry mate.. but I'm still not sure what your opinion of her Mother is..%/ Bernie |
