Cobra found
We just found it... after going missing for a few weeks, it was uncovered when they moved the 40.

Maybe Bernie planned not having a motor while he was away. Your lucky you dont live in NSW. As of 11th July No new P1 or P2 driver (red or green P plates) are allowed to drive ANY V8 , turbo car or high performance six cylinder. There goes the idea of teaching my son to drive the Cobra . :CRY: :CRY: Phil:( :( |

Only time will tell if the RTA have got it right, their track record to date has not been good.
I am a firm believer that driver training is the key to keeping people safe on the road and Ben will get a few of these courses under his belt after he gets his P plates. You dont have to drive fast to have fun (skid pan day) or get into trouble. I rolled my 1200 cc VW while on P plates and that was purely due to not knowing what i was doing and there was of course the swing axle. Made a good base for the Meyers Manx that came next. I really wanted to share the Cobra experience with Ben sooner than later. Suppose waiting two years isnt so bad.... Phil:) |
Phil, Let me give ya a word of advice.. :)
Like you, I have a son but a bit older than yours. This son of mine has absolutely no taste for good machinery as he drives a very strong restored HSV. He has had his eyes on the cobra for years and I've told him I'll leave it to him when I kick the bucket. ;) Now... every time he comes over with a 6 pack I've got to check that they've not been tampered with. I'm sure he's trying to get rid of me. :( However, like you, I'm a great believer in driver training courses and they have been the "gift" that his mother and I have given him for Birthdays etc. on more than one occasion. He has thoroughly enjoyed these courses and this I believe has been the reason he has not gotten into any trouble driving. Problem is, he can sure pedal a car around a course and now gives his "old man" a bit of a hurry up. :D |
Its certainly somthing Ill do before I get the cobra finished. I have no illusions as to my driving ability (of lack there of).
The only rear wheel drive car Ive ever owned was my first car, a sigma with not a straight or non rusted panel on it. Im thinking the cobra mite have just a little more get up and go then the 2 litre "astron" (Although I did have a loit of fun with it on the dirt roads out Bathurst way) :D |

I did Ian Luffs course at Oran Park. Stage 1 and Stage 3. Stage 1 is car control, mainly breaking in dry and wet through imanginary traffic using cones ( orange type). Heaps of fun. Taught me how good ABS is as the Cobra dosent have it. I now leave big gap to car in front when in traffic. There were a lot of P platers at this course. You wouldnt believe the difference in braking distances between drivers and the improvement made. Stage 1 is prerequisite to further courses. Stage 3 is a track day. You get to learn lines through corners and get a lot of track time. Day ends up with reverse grid (fastest at back)observed drive(for CAMS) so you get to pass others. Pretty intense stuff especially when you come into the bottom corner at end of straight with a GT3 on the inside and the Monaro in front spins... A great day and I am going back to do it again soon. Costs about $500 for Stage 1 and 2. phil:D :D |
Its a shame our streets aren't the controlled environments that our tracks are.
When I got my P plates I did a number of advanced driving courses, both at Amaroo and Oran Parks. Back then all it did was make me believe I was a Peter Brock. Ended up totalling my V6 Capri, an Volvo, a Torana, a Triumph Stag and a ski boat all in one accident down at Wisemans Ferry. Thank god for Insurance. |
